How many years has this guy been Pro....Surely he can't be nervous, but he does look it. I noticed on Tuesday that his communication with the back 4 was non existent, and feel this leads to the indecision of the defence and himself..hence not coming off his line and them leaving it....Ball in the back of our net. Also when passed back to him his kicking was not the greatest to say the least. He makes me nervous..and he probably makes the players nervous...this cant be a good thing

They did seem more confident with Bentley behind them

And massively more confident with Belford, who they always knew exactly what was going on with. Ayrshire said he reminds him of Mildy, I don't know about that. At least Mildy caught the ball and his kicking wasn't so bad (if a bit one dimensional).

Just watched the highlights on Blues World and that was embarrissing. He punched the ball at chest height and was lucky to get away with that, and the goal he actually ducked and turned his back on the cross. This bloke is the worst since Prudhoe and i've seen enough already to not give him anymore time, who scouted this fella, Yorkshire Blue?

Welcome to Southend, Paul. This is what you're up against.

atleast smudge put his nightmare of midweek behind him and put in a good performance with afew solid saves, especially the double one

He did make a couple of good saves today, the double save in the second half was good. I will say that the good saves he made were reaction saves. As I have said all along, when Smith doesn't get time to think he makes good saves. When he thinks about things, that's when it goes pair shaped. Big fumble and drop near the end almost cost us too.

ye, agree totally, when its fast paced and he has no time to think thats when he pulls of some good reaction stops, smudge does come across bit slow...... clean sheet though so well done to smith and the back 4

The only problem with lower league goalkeepers. Smith is probably a better shot stopper than Belford but Belford a better communicator. I'm still laying off him at the moment as I think there is a good goalie in there but agree I have no confidence with him at times. Worries me.

Smith is an enigma at the moment as far as I'm concerned.
Makes some excellent saves , which have kept us in games in recent weeks , and thought he did well again on Saturday in that respect.
But to me , it always looks like there's a clanger waiting to happen.
Hope things get better , but just think he is a quiet type who will never have bundles of confidence.

I never had much confidence in Smith at Forest, good shot-stopper but left me a bit nervy whenever I saw him. I think you can get used to this, will make some match-winning saves but will keep you on the edge of your seat too!
