Brentford were a division higher and we’d played them that season in the JPT and had deservedly beaten them. Then we drew them in the FA Cup and held them at home in a game we should have won and then they complete battered us in the replay.
Best......Flavs and Roycie
Worst..... Hands like dinner plates Cumbersome and Prudhoe who came off at half time for Mel
Which essentially was like trading a broken leg for a broken arm.
That game at barnet was the worst goalkeeping I had ever seen.
Too busy watching Phil Brown and Gareth Ainsworth snogging on the touchline to remember it.Fascinating to see how this thread has developed. I guess it depends on how old posters are which governs who they have seen. I went for Trevor Roberts but interestingly my most favourite all time G/K moment in a game was Daniel Bentley's penalty saves at Wembley, and yet he doesn't feature much on this thread.
And that turned out well for us and devastatingly badly for him........not. I see that Wycombe have snuck into the FL play-off places last night as well.Too busy watching Phil Brown and Gareth Ainsworth snogging on the touchline to remember it.
Funny, I remember feeling sorry for Ainsworth at the time. Thought it was his one chance of glory with his little club. We on the other hand were moving on to bigger and better things.
what did flavs do?Flavs disgraced himself at the sponsors dinner and was lucky to get a second chance. Wignall was sacked because he also signed Drewe, Stuart, Husbands and Corbett and despite re-signing Flavs he was still useless.
Got hideously drunk at the sponsors dinner, which was Wignall's first chance to meet the squad.what did flavs do?
Not for us, but our former goalie Brian Lloyd scored for Stockport County against Bradford City at Valley Parade back in March 1982. Ironically Lloyd scored the only goal in the first half as Stockport led 0-1 at the interval. Sadly in the second half Bradford City smashed 5 goals without reply. The attendance that night was just 3,941, after that match Bradford City lost just one of their last 15 games (2-0 at Peterborough) with 7 wins and 7 draws and finished the season as runners-up with 91 points just 5 points behind Sheffield United who were Division 4 Champions.Has one of our Goalkeepers ever scored for us?
Oh dear!It wasn’t his height that let him down so much as his decision making.
If anything his lack of height actually helped his reputation as his lack of reach turned what would be standard saves for most keepers into finger tip saves at full stretch which looked more spectacular.
Oh dear!
Never stopped Laurie Sivell, though admittedly he wasnt usually first choice.I think Flahavan might have been better than Cawston even ——-if only he’d been 6 inches taller !
didn't Ian Wright play that night too?He did have time to concede nine against Brighton in November, 1965, however.
It's the unwanted record for a Blues keeper, poor bloke, although Sammy conceded eight against Palace, lest we forget.
Whenever I catch up with Mark Bright I give him a kick in the shins as a reminder!
Have to completely disagree here….Darryl was extremely well drilled and technically as good a keeper as we have EVER had.It wasn’t his height that let him down so much as his decision making.

I have to say that that Testermonial Paul got was a disgrace for the service he gave the club , what was it about 1.500 turned up .View attachment 19970Maybe this is like your favourite James Bond and you can’t see past the goalkeeper of your youth?
For me it’s Paul Sansome all day long - when we sang “England’s Number 1” I actually meant it!!! Rock-solid keeper, did all the basics brilliantly and frequently made incredible saves to keep us in games.
Flavs a close second, another excellent keeper and person - if he’d been six foot plus he’d have played Premier League football.
He did indeed! I just tend to see more of Mark.didn't Ian Wright play that night too?
Not only did they both play, they both scored hattricks.didn't Ian Wright play that night too?
We lost 4-0 to Stoke.........He did indeed! I just tend to see more of Mark.
Funny thing was as Blues supporters bounced around in support of a team that was being massacred; the following Saturday I think we beat Stoke, 1-0! Correct me if wrong, for those who know better.
Ha-Ha! I knew Stoke came into it somewhere! We lost 4-0 to Stoke.........
