Our Average Attendance

If only I could! Still get cold sweats! Those penalty misses to be fair, probably cost him his job, never known anything like that before! Probably never see it again either!

Them penalty misses weren't just under Wignall were they?! Tilson had to endure the majority of them I would have said.

I dunno but it still woulda amounted to a whole different points equation, that said who cares! All worked out nicely!

I think the penalty misses were split fairly evenly between Tilly and  Wignall last season. From what I recall they were at even more costly times under Wignall though (a minute before one team scored against us (lincoln? - Jupp missed it), to put us an extra goal up against Carlisle, in the last minute at Hull, etc).

penalty misses, bad home/away form. lets just face it wignal was crap. done it for me when we where 1-0 down to borient at home, and continued to play one up front.

Seem to remember he always had a new jag, paid for by the club. Uncle Vic has now joined his ancestors, hence we can now say what we like about him!
I thought it was the dead that you weren't supposed to speak ill of?!

Never quite worked out why though. If someone, as Jobson was, is a to**er whilst alive, they shouldn't become a saint when dead!

Not forgetting an away game at Posh where Jobson refused to get off the coach for the 'welcoming committee'.

I know it is a painful subject but in my eyes Jobson saved this club and got us into Div 1. Many stains on his reputation but for these two facts alone I am grateful.

I think there are one or two posts on here about Vic Jobson that should not have been written.

Irrespective of what he got up to when he was alive, he is no longer here to defend himself, but members of his family are... where are the moderators, when you need them?

I have just read right the way through this whole topic and i can see where everybody is coming from. I think that the reason we are enjoying the crowds this season is for a number of reasons. firstly and most importantly we have a really good team which is full of local talent and not journey man pro's looking for a pay day. We have a manager who epitomises the club and what it stands for. He is hard working honest and genuinely cares about southend united football club. We have a board of directors who have transformed the club from losing lots of money and being drab and uninteresting to a club that is now marketable and has the potential to make a profit. A matchday at roots hall is now a much much more pleasant experience. This is down to the players manager the facilities and Ron martin who i trust now, although i never did at the start. So taking in to account all of the above and the fact that a new stadium could coincide with another rise through the leagues. I definately think it possible for us to keep on adding to a our core support. Should we get promoted this season i see no reason why our average gates cant move up to 6-7000 next season. I may be wrong , but that is the way that i see things. Obviously should the team start to fail in the league things could change , but with Ron martin and Tilly/Brushy around i cant really see that happening.

So have I, although it seems to have shrunk massively in the interim.
Yes, but it's still treasured. Bought for £3 before the trip to Hillsborough on the unofficial coach. Happy days.

I have no time for Vic Jobson dead or alive, whilst alive however i was in an exec suite at Roots Hall as i was working for Telewest and i decided to confront dear old Vic who had a Minder with him. Needless to say he wouldnt speak to me or answer questions and made sure his Minder was very much in between us.

Vic had/has alot to answer for, and the poor running of club/needless litigation etc are at the forefront.

I dont agree that he should be hailed as i beleive it was David Webb and his Teams that acheived the promotions we celebrated.

of course this is all my opinion

Absolutely. And it was Jobson who was to blame for Webby leaving and not completing the job of getting us to the top division when it looked like we were heading straight there a la Wimbledon... and then appointing that pillock Murphy who proceeded to **** everything up (aside from signing Stan for which we're eternally grateful).

Just to chip in here.

I think if we got promoted we would indeed inrease out attendance to 6-7000.

But for how long would that last...if we stayed in league 1 and did not push for promotion for a few years then we would once again see a dip to around 3500-4000.

Exactly the same would happen if we went in to the championship.

These extra supporters we are getting now are enjoying their football.
Would they still be there if were were struggeling in a higher league on a cold rainy wed night in november.....i think not.

We just have to budget for low crowds and anything else is a bonus.

On another note if you are bringing friends and familly to watch football at the hall for F*cks sake make sure they take off any West ham shirts and scarfs...it makes my blood boil to see these tight fisted hammers comming down to watch us with the excuse that you cant get ticklets for the hammers and they just want to watch a game of football......I (we) dont want your bloody money stop coming to watch us and save ya cash to watch your own F*@@~@ team.

Regards.

I dont completely agree there... yes, lets please ensure any Hammers garb is left at home - but I'd take anyone's cash quite frankly! We aren't wealthy enough to be fussy... and if they come down to the Hall you never know they might just like it and come again...

The more the merrier (in SUFC colours or civvies)....

Ive just bought a couple of tickets in the east stand blues seats for Saturday and he said the blues section nearly sold !!

I reckon 6,000 plus gate Saturday...

Back to Vic Jobson I agree with ORM ?? He did save our club from going bust, but at the expense out our magnificent South Stand, we all turned the next season and its was gone, Bloody broke my heart .....

Never lose the Faith

SUFC the Essex Kings !!
