That's why I originally thought an Easter Saturday fitted the bill.

However, Stuart's post raised the point about Roy Mc being sent off early and it's noticeable in that photo that he isn't in shot, despite it being what appears to be a chance following a corner.

I was convinced it was Clarky, I have to say.

The key is who do we think the number 2 is?

Stead played against Newport
May played against Peterborough

I must admit, I'm swaying more towards Stuart's answer. The pic also does have a November feel to it, rather than Easter.

Looks chunky so I would say Stead.

The ref in the photo is definitley Tony Ward.

In which case your eyesight is better than your spelling :winking:

Impossible to be sure with no facial detail but his physique and hair colouring matches that enjoyed by Tony Ward at that time.

This from Barry Hugman's footballers. Southend United

It would appear they were the only 2 appearances Terry ever made for anyone!

I suppose on his CV he can say his final match was as a centre-half in a 5-0 win!

We also seemed to have two keepers, both called Jim Stannard! :winking:

I was Flossie Webster's nightmare pupil. :stunned:
It's certainly not Alf Buksh!

Yep you're memory is going old timer. He was definitely a centre back. He actually started in the Spurs youth squad.
No ,sorry Seventies,Wiko has misled you here.I’ve checked back and can confirm what I was 99% sure of.We played 4-4-2 that season and in the one game Terry Pryer started,Westley and Hatter were the centre-backs,O’Shea and Clark midfielders,Rogers left-wing,and slightly-built Pryer right-wing.

He appears in this (slightly) interesting and comprehensive list of players (not up to date though) who have been at Tottenham and Southend.

Paul Moran
"Southend took the Spurs winger on loan in 1991"

... and gave him back three days later!

He didn't complete that match, being replaced by Barry Silkman.

He also started and finished another match at the end of the season. Engwell and Cadette up front got 4 goals between them and Clark presumably played at the back with Hatter in the absence of Westley. Not sure which one of O'Shea, Pennyfather and Seaden (father of young goalkeeper Harry) joined Silkman, Pryer and Rogers in the middle. I'll guess Pennyfather for no reason other than he scored!

Whoever it was, it worked well as Rochdale were thumped 5-0.

If he was slightly built, he must of been the smallest centre back and centre half ever, because they are down as his real positions.

I think Newport is a good shout. My worry is for the fools who are sitting down on the terracing in the middle of November, I would imagine that they are now nursing haemorrhoids that resemble a bunch of grapes.

Hi
Can anyone provide info of a gorden Francis Emerson who I'm told played in goal for Southend I think at some point after the war (born 1926) ??? Any info appreciated
