OD - Week 2

So here goes my first match on Battrick...

ReigateCC Vs Pitsea Shrimp CC

PitseaShrimp Won the Toss and Decided to bat.

End of 50 overs:

351-3 runrate of 7.02

Bennie* 54 (31 balls)
Grier 79 (60 Balls)

Armstrong 10-0-74-0

Ive not made any changes yet so could do with some tips

A disappointing total of 290 off my 50 overs, although I think dusty pitches are harder to score quickly off and i should still win with ease.

Good start Pitsea!

Trust you have read the combined wisdom of SZ on new teams, about getting in 17 year old trainees etc? There was a thread recently started by GNH. Any questions, just fire away.

Indeed you were most helpful, in that case i have two more. Is there a great benefit in investing in academy ITS' and now i have about £500k in the bank should i try to get some better trainees or stick with the triple mediocres?

Should be enough, thoughj Suthers is invigorated as is Plums.

Well he's managed two wickets in his first over. Finlayson isn't brilliant, but bit annoyed Wilkinson has gone 1st ball. Not that it's fantastic but I would expect a bit better from a quality/quality player.

Oh well. Looks like it could all be over pretty quickly.

Batricians of Manhattan v Gambero C.C. (1860481)

End of Over 50: 335-2, runrate=6.70
Chenzira 10-0-67-0
Liddel* 65 (44 balls)
Harrad 139 (113 balls)
Last Wicket: Thabo c. Bushell b. Stanway 83 (FOW: 232/2)

Against someone MrB knows about, so B is he better at batting than bowling

With 35 ITS (the maximum) once you've got your youth academy up to the max, you are guaranteed pulling at least triple mediocre 17yos, with the possibility of them being up to low proficient. I'd say it is worth investing in the youth academy, but not a high priority.

If you've already got a full compliment of trainees, I wouldn't bother buying better trainees. Instead make the most of the generous interest rates on offer until later in the season and then start investing in the youth academy (BB worked out when was best on the other thread - think it was week 9) so that you can pull 3 maximum ITS pulls the first three weeks of next season.

Steady start from my boys

Stride 10 (15 balls)

Last Wicket: Hutton c. Crane b. Draper 1 (FOW: 9/1)

could go either way here... got some early wickets but conceding a lot of runs, J-Mac's first three overs went for 27... Glasby could be the key.

End of Over 10: 64-2, runrate=6.40, reqrunrate=5.65 (289-8)
Ahmed 5-0-22-2
Mapie* 14 (22 balls)
Glasby 36 (30 balls)
Last Wicket: Xolani c. Thornley b. Ahmed 0 (FOW: 13/2)

Hmmm, Hot Rod just haemorraghed a load of runs and with Cooky and Suthers out of the action till the last ten and the unfirt Plums to come this could get interesting:

End of Over 19: 94-3, runrate=4.95, reqrunrate=4.32 (227-10)
Sajjad 3-0-11-0
Elvis* 18 (19 balls)
Worrall 52 (67 balls)

Last Wicket: Bowden Run Out 22 (FOW: 43/3)

Going to be a close one, could have done without losing both The King and Brucie though.

Not that it's fantastic but I would expect a bit better from a quality/quality player.
A quality/quality is always going to struggle when he's got exquisite/exceptional at one end and exceptional/wonderful at the other. Odds are he's going to be tripped up sooner or later. My innings was a classic BT total, big knock from my main man with supporting roles from various superb/quality batsmen. Alas as I look higher the standard of the supporting roles is similar to that of my main bat which is why I won't get out of III this season.

Mirror image of my innings:
End of Over 22: 107-3, runrate=4.86, reqrunrate=4.32 (227-10)
Plummer 1-0-4-0
Elvis* 27 (30 balls)
Worrall 56 (74 balls)

Last Wicket: Bowden Run Out 22 (FOW: 43/3)

no wickets but hauling the RR back down, still very tight.

End of Over 20: 106-2, runrate=5.30, reqrunrate=6.13 (289-8)
Awan 5-0-16-0
Glasby* 50 (60 balls)
Mapie 41 (53 balls)
Last Wicket: Xolani c. Thornley b. Ahmed 0 (FOW: 13/2)

Plums strikes to settle the home teams nerves.

End of Over 24: 113-4, runrate=4.71, reqrunrate=4.42 (227-10)
Plummer 2-0-7-1
Conelly* 1 (3 balls)
Worrall 58 (77 balls)

Last Wicket: Elvis c. Sutherland b. Plummer 30 (FOW: 110/4)

End of Over 25: 91-3, runrate=3.64, reqrunrate=12.20 (395-0)
Mabuso 3-1-4-3
Hazell* 42 (72 balls)
Oconnor 0 (1 balls)

Last Wicket: Wakeman lbw b. Mabuso 0 (FOW: 91/3)

24.6 . Mabuso to Oconnor
Shortish, straight ball. Oconnor hops on the crease and plays it down towards mid on.
24.5 W Mabuso to Wakeman
Goes back to a full ball and gets absolutely done. Hits him on the toe and the umpire had no choice but to give that one out! A bit of poor judgment from Wakeman there.

24.4 . Mabuso to Wakeman
Good bowling there, Mabuso got Wakeman fishing for that one.
24.3 W Mabuso to Bangura
What a superlative catch! Bangura has just been dispatched by an unbelievable ball and following catch from Mabuso, diving full length to his left. Impeccable reflexes, simply impeccable
.
24.2 W Mabuso to Howell
It's swung in and taken his off stump! Mabuso runs around like a crazy man, and Howell is OUT!

24.1 . Mabuso to Howell
Nothing scored off that ball, good tight line and length by Mabuso.

Looking a bit of a struggle now
