Obese kids 'not obese'

You're right on so many counts there ORM, there's also the mass selling off of school playing fields for development to consider as well. Look at Prince Avenue school, that used to have lovely fields and I remember playing netball and hockey rallies there - now it's a mass of housing.

The school dinner thing is very emotive. The problem these days is so many kids are used to eating poor quality food that school dinners are just not even worth considering. Having said that though, around here the schools mostly do a roast on Wednesday and this has one of the biggest take ups. Very few schools have proper canteens where kids can eat their meal without being rushed because there's another sitting to follow so they just wolf down whatever they've got as quick as possible.

I've seen lunch boxes containing 2 packets of crisps, 3 chocolate bars and a juice type drink. You enquire of the parent why the child has this and get told "it's all he/she'll eat". I have a friend who has 3 children, the younger two have both been faddy eaters and the youngest only eats nuggets or pizza and chips. I have to bite my tongue whenever we're out. The whole thing here comes back to inconsistent and poor parenting.
