New SUFC Song

100% Agree, an actual song written about the club

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j40CGbApBUA

Another northern sky
another motorway parade
another day like this
whatever will be will be
and we will be in Shrewsbury (do I have to go)

Do I have to go
Could I ever stay away
And you never know
Tonight our luck could change
And we'll be flying all the way (going all the way)
A late point and I'll be laughing
And Saturday won't seem so bleak
With you, Blue

Ever a stepping stone
Someone's Mickey Mouse affair
We're so unfashionable
But I'm not with you for your stylish hair
Or the seaside air (if we ever get there)
Tell me we've acquired a striker (Stanley)
And a lucrative sponsorship came through (on a free)
Will you, Blue
Can we not buy someone famous
And pull a crowd we can't contain at all
All true, Blue

Maybe we'll never tread the grass that grows around your feet
And you let us in for weighting tables like we live to feed
And not to eat (but we get a seat)
Three points and the living's easy
And every day's a Saturday
With you, true blue
Saturday

Was thinking exactly the same thing, and wouldn't it be great to get Alison back down to sing it...

Hmmmm..

;) ;)

I think maybe this verse.......

Sail on Southend,
Sail on by.
Your time has come to shine.
All your dreams are on their way.
See how they shine.
If you need a fan
Im sailing right behind.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind.

Song at the tempo of this version....or is it to fast?? to get to the verse above foward to 2 min 35sec on the link below.

Give it a go...sing at the top of your voice and see if it works

Fully behind this. Said it once and I'll say it again, this can be OUR "You'll Never Walk Alone"-style anthem. Having thousands of fans singing this will inspire our own players, intimidate the opposition and send shivers down your spine like YNWA does being sung from The Kop. This is a superb choice and Aberdeen and I changed a word each to make it fit a bit more :)

Bridge Over Troubled Water is the way forward :D

I do love this song (Blue - Alison Moyet) as every other Southend supporter does....I had it played at my wedding......but we are talking about a recognised anthem that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up.

It is of course for us and about us but also it is our anthem to the rest of the football world......If Liverpool/Celtic had adopted a song that was totally synonymous to them and no one outside of L.F.C. or C.F.C. had ever heard of it do you honestly think people would rave on about the feeling they get when you here "Walk on" it sung at Anfield and Celtic Park??

The reason Walk On makes you get goose bumps when you here it done really well is because you recognise the song…..and those 2 clubs have made it there’s.
To date….no one club have adopted Bridge over Troubled water….so we should make it ours.

Seems like a good shout to me.

Do enough of the youth recognise it?

A couple of tunes recently got a few southend boys including the groom on the dance floor

Park Life - Blur

House of Fun - Baggy Trousers - Madness

I couldn't disagree more, How can a song that just by association be more poignant than a song written about the club in question. I appreciate your example of YNWA because its a true Anthem. However Liverpool have sung that song for many years making it what it is. There are very few examples of smaller teams turning a generic song into a "hair raising" anthem?

Perhaps because they haven't made enough of an effort to promote and push its use? With the club and the Blue Voice firmly behind all this, it can really, really catch on with a little bit of time, effort and patience.

I like 'Blue'. it's about our club. But it's not anthemic, it doesn't send shivers, and I can't see it making RH more intimidating.

Ok....so what’s to say we are not that first club?

Do you not think that on the message boards in Liverpool....(well back then post it notes) There were not fans saying."You will Never Walk Alone" that will never work, ay ay ay what a sh.it idea"

But look at it now….. Rome was not built in a day, let’s pick a true anthem that works. Not a song about playing against a league 2 side (no offence Shrewsbury).

We are all ambitious and want he club to be successful....we would love to get out of this division and in to the Championship...or even in our wildest dreams in to the play offs for the Prem.....can you imagine it if we ever got there.....Picture the scene

7000 of us at Old Trafford singing about playing a League 2 team.......I am looking forwards guys not backwards

Right, Im loving Bridge over troubled water...

I prefer the tempo with the Si & Garf version, dont you think?

Scroll to 3:00 mins

OMG...........that is as close to perfect as you can get.....I closed my eyes and pictured it ringing out around the whole of Roots Hall with everyone’s Scarves raised aloft.....

I can honestly say that put goose bumps on the back of my neck.

And i agree....don’t change a single word from the original
