New Harry Potter film

When its about a childrens fiction book there is though.

I really cant see what the big deal about Harry Potter is, it all just bores me and everybody cant stop talking about how great it is.

Hallelujah ! I have still not managed one complete film without falling asleep. I never understood the clamour to read the books. My guess is that this was just the fashionable thing to do and as for talking about it at work God alone knows why. In terms of popularity the Sun is the widest purchased daily but that doesn't mean it is good. Sadly those that read the book are probably those that read the Sun

That is the answer I think, peoples inability to think for themselves. Everyone says what a great book it is so everyone reads it and thinks 'It must be good' I'm not saying the books aren't good, I just don't understand theridiculous hype over these books when if people just looked a litlle further they could find their own enjoyable reads. My brother is a prime example of this, aged 20 and will not read anything at all apart from Harry Potter.

p.s Bamby and Dumbo deal with real issues like seperation from mother and discrimination which are upsetting, someone dying at the hands of evil Lord Voldemort however isn't.

I certainly don't read the Sun, but I originally felt it was important to read the books that were so relevant to my own children and to help them to understand the films. My other half never reads, hadn't for years until these books came out and he has read them all. Like Paul was saying yesterday JK Rowling tapped into something that made people want to read again, and it's this that has made the films so popular as well.

And as for Josh C's comment about Bambi and Dumbo dealing with real subjects, the HP books deal with huge amounts of stuff that's relevant to kids today, not least of all the bullying and being "different", they're no less real than separation or death of a parent (of which Harry has also experienced, twice).

I still have a selection of Janet and John and Enid Blyton books if anyone wants to upgrade from JKR.

Not forgetting the old classic Chicken Licken story which I am surprised hasn't been turned into a blockbuster by now.

I wouldn't mind betting some of my Famous Five original hardbacks are worth some dough. I keep meaning to check to see whether any are First editions.

I had the full set of those and gave them away to a book stall back in the late 70s, I'm pretty sure they are worth some decent money, especially if they've still got the dust covers.

My daughter still enjoys Enid Blyton's school series books today, and I see kids reading Famous Five in school, so she is still popular, but JK has managed to tap into something special as far as kids today are concerned.

Just had a quick look - on ebay, some guy's selling a load of them in blocks and there's a set of Five Fall in to Adventure, Five go to Mystery Moor, Five go on a Secret Trail and Five go to Billycock Hill, and they're up to £20 plus postage.
