Sat in front of me in the West Stand at the last home game.Really hope it works out for him as is not a bed of Rose's at Gillingham at the moment listening to BBC Kent coming back from Dover there fans are less than pleased after their thrashing against Oxford and from comments made by Lovell there stand in manager he wasnt very complementary of the actions of the previous manager towards the players.Good luck Neil I really hope you know what you are getting into

Wouldn;t say he's a blues fan but his friends are and he's still a regular around the non league circuit as his son plays for Benfleet Fc.

He also plays a few times over the chase whilst he's not been in management

100% is a Southend fan.

Was very close to being named Ipswich boss too. Was on his way in to sign his contract, terms had all been agreed, and do his welcome to Ipswich photos/interviews etc and the Club had a change of heart and went down the route of the current boss.

Think he’d have been a great choice at Ipswich. At Gills, he has a hell of a job on his hands.

I would say his main team is millwall. He may have soft spot for southend but his main team is millwall. If my memory serves me right he turned down sufc to go back to millwall for second time in his career. Both clubs were in the same league at that particular time to.

He is a Southend fan, he supported the Club as a kid and went to our matches.

He became a Millwall legend as a player, and as a result, has an affinity to them, but he is a Southend United fan.

All true and his affinity to Millwall might’ve been tainted by the way he was treated there as a manager by some of their fans.
Seen him in Leigh on Sea and have exchanged pleasantries, lovely fella.

That is good to hear. I wonder why Neil Harris never wanted the Southend job when it was available.

Possibly because he knows our owner too well ?

I would have been happy to see Neil as our manager but we have the fab 3 now so probably all for the best & I wish him all the best, unless we are playing Gillingham of course ?

Yes ...that's correct. A friend of my dad's spoke to him a couple of years ago and he confirmed that he wouldn't take the job whilst Ron was still around.

I saw him at our play-off final at Wembley with his son who was wearing a Southend shirt.

I saw him at Rayleigh Sainsbury shopping with his wife last week, he had a Southend shirt on with DALBY on back, and his missus had an away yellow shirt with CARDWELL name on it.
I was shocked that they were shopping at mid morning in their pjs.

What is going on at Gills!!, he's only got about 7 or 8 perm players, some of them he said he didn't want after getting relegated but can't shift them!!

This friendly in a couple of weeks might be a waste of time if he doesn't change things soon!!
