My new way of thinking - SUFC wise

ldnfatso

Red Rep King!
I am bored of reading the "Are we gonna sign anyone?", "When are we gonna sign someone?" or "Where's the money gone?" threads on here and i've thought about this hard.

I am of the opinion that Uncle Ron has got the best interest of the club at heart in the long term ie: Stadium. I also believe he won't bugger off as soon as it's built. Spending more money than we have is recipe for disaster and therefore must be avoided. The stadium, i reckon needs to be our platform to start building on the pitch. Until then, frugality is wise and if this means we have to take in relegation and give the youths some 1st team experience on the way then so be it! Frustrating this may sound but we have been there before and we always come up smiling! To quote Corporal Jones "Don't Panic".

I must add that although i love watching us play in higher divisions, i'm not adverse to watching us playing in the bottom tier. Watching Southend is the main thing.

I am now gonna hide to prepare for the abuse !

No Abuse but i think you are wrong. I think within a year of that ground being built old ronnie will be off.

make no mistake. the lack of new players in by is stage is very, very worrying.

Think you make some good points. Just a little frustrated at the lack of movement. I can understand the Theo and Clarkey situations but its just the lack of movement that is getting to me. Dont doubt the club are trying but dont understand why we cant even compete with tin pots clubs like Orient for players.

No abuse from me, pretty spot on, althought the suggestion of relegation is a bit much, I dont think we will go down in fact I would put a big bet on us not going down, but too many people think that not getting promotion is a failure, when in reallity that is not the case, we will sign players it is 100% guaranteed, just a matter of when not if, people also seemed a bit obsessed with getting players in before x y and z time before pre season etc etc, we dont have much money to spend so spending it wisely is even more important

To save several posters the trouble, I will make the same tired old points they make:

1. Don't you remember the bad old days of Johnson/Jobson/Bate/Alvin Martin etc etc?

2. Ron is God.

3. Don't you think Tilly and Brush are tirelessly combing Europe for the next Stan Collymore?

4. We musn't overspend, it's best to be cautious. By cautious, we mean spending the same as the clubs in administration.

5. We're a small club in that division and can't compete with the likes of Leeds, Norwich, Huddersfield (Brighton, Yeovil, Borient and Col Ewe).

It's all very well to be positive, optimistic and to have faith in Mr Martin and the management team, but right now our squad looks thinner than the Biafran slimmer of the year, and I totally disagree that we shouldn't be worried about sacrificing League One status for our new stadium. If we went down, and didn't jump back straight away we would be back to sub-5000 crowds, and how would that look at FF? As a larger chap, I wouldn't mind 5 seats each, but it's not going to look that impressive is it?

Brighton, uddersfield and col ewe have all got rich bods chucking money at them, How are meant to compete with that? our squad is thin no doubt about it, but we will get players in eventually, do you honestly 100% think we wont get any players? it must be doing tillys head in working to such a tight budget, but I bet we still get to see a SUFC team trying to play good football that may sniff the play offs(I hope) as the great take that said have a little patience(I adont really think their great)

I don't care about the "Don't look impressive" stuff! It's once we get there we have to pull our finger out and then get investing in the team imho! That then generates the interest from the locals supporters and then snowballs! I'd rather be frugal now and avoid bankruptcy etc and build from a solid base at FF.

The difference between Victor Jobson and Ron Martin?

Jobson did things he shouldn't behind the scenes whilst telling the fans we were the "Hitler Youth" and "go and support someone else" and barring us from games. Per se, everyone hated him and questioned his every move (normally with justification).

Martin, possibly does things behind the scenes he shouldn't but tells the fans we are great and has a great line in PR. Per se, most people like him and therefore don't question him.

Just an opinion of course before the lawyers come for me.

We have a solid base of support now, much of which has arisen from recent success, not a new stadium. Most of us here on SZ are hardened supporters who have been through the **** times, but the extra 3,000 who have swelled our attendance over the last few years have been attracted by the promotions and the trips to Cardiff. If we lose them, will they come back?

Absolutely. The opportunity to play in a new stadium, probably not owned by the club, is not a great swap for going back to the bottom tier.

with all due respect the current one isn't owned by the club!

Not in comparison to this time last year it doesn't and I think that the main point.

Last year we needed to sign several players to even make a match day squad. This season we need players to strengthen the squad but could put a team out if we needed to.

Too much panicking by too many people.

Anyone thought of the fact that if we continue to not attract players and get relegated for no fought of Tillys then he will be off , Southend without Tilly is not a good prospect as how would you lure a decent replacement with them knowing that they have zero dosh to spend .

I'm not panicking as I feel we have a strong enough squad at the moment , its frustrating as we are only a few players off a decent push for promotion ala Millwall and Scunthorpe whom in my opinion were only a flair player better then us .

I will not be to bothered if we got soem quality youngsters from Prem sides , but as pointed out ion previous threads , we need to be securing them for longer periods as with sawyer , Feds , dorian and Junior , everpresence last term we would of been in the top 3/4 .......simples

A lot of sense being posted in a thread; it'll never last.

The things I agree with most:
- no need to panic; we could field a decent team even if we buy nobody
- no need to panic; we're obviously being quite active in the search for players who can improve the squad
- no need to panic; even if we can't sign good players on permanent contracts, there'll be plenty of PL youngsters looking for clubs to play for (who knows we might even impress them and persuade them to stay)

So, do I think there's any need to panic? Not really!
