Musicians that "lost their way"....

Finger hovering precariously over the neg rep button!

Weller may have made some ****e post The Jam, but Wild Wood & Stanley Road are up there without a shadow. And not liking the Smiths! Lost. For. Words!

smiths..utter self indulgent tripe...get over yourselves..no-one liked you in the Smiths, it was ALL emperors new clothes.

Joy Division were much better, and you could argue they lost thier way a tad when they re-branded under New Order.

John Lydon..rubbish as PIL
Joe Strummer..after he kicked Mick Jones out, and what were the Masceleros about?
The Stranglers..after Hugh Cornwell left
The Skids...after Stuart Adamson left
The Ruts... after they reformed as Ruts DC

Cliff richards
Des o'connor
They both stopped making great music in the late 90's,shame really.

Well if I'm honest I never stopped liking her and her new stuff is all catchy and fun. But there's no doubt she lost her way!

Was that the drugs, kids, marraige, divorce and shagging her dancers, kinda lost her way...or we talking musically too?

The Smiths were inspired in part by Joy Division. Morrisseys lyrics coupled with Johnny Marr's riffs made for an awesome band and if you can't see that, I feel very sorry for you!

It's a big call but I'm going to make it....

The Rolling Stones.

Fantastic up to the mid to late 1970's after that their output became tired and albums only seemed to be released as an excuse for touring.

In that case Oasis as the new Rolling Stones anyone?

Also Weller for me, his solo stuff is just Dad-Rock by numbers. To be fair he does suffer by comparison with the genius of The Jam.

My favourite stuff by most bands is in their early years - the first couple of albums. There are some exceptions to the rule but usually it's downhill after that.

Guns n Roses after Use your Illusion 2
Nine Inch Nails after The Fragile
Marilyn Manson after Mechanical Animals
Metallica after the black album
Ryan Adams after Gold

Whereas as Queens of the Stone Age, Slipknot and System of a Down got better.

Boy George seems to be going down. Some would say thats nothing new.

I was going to say something similar about George Michael, but some would say his music got better after Wham..lets face it, it couldnt get worse.

Oasis...see 'the Smiths'..overhyped manc Drivvel.

That got me thinking about my record collection and , with the possible exception of The Jams Setting Sons I don't think I have got a great Album which is past anyones 3rd release (maybe Green Day but as I "discovered" them so late on I bought them totally out of sequence and almost all in one go)

The 2nd Album has always been a sticking point and often bands don't recover from a poor 2nd Album
