No, I still think if you have certain principles then no amount of cash will persuade you otherwise, and I believe Tilson would feel like this if Col U came waving a big fat cheque in his direction. I'm not saying he wouldn't go elsewhere if a good offer was made, just don't believe he'd ever go up the A12 to be their manager.
Sorry Kay, I think he'd be off like a shot. He'd be mad not to. I don't think "principles" come into it, as I said before to Steve Tilson, it's just a job and a he's got the same bills to pay as the rest of us.
Just think though how much of a coup that would be for Col U!! Taking our manager and paying near on 1/2 a mill for players!
Well, we'll have to agree to differ there then. If it was the difference between the bailiffs coming calling or not then ok, might accept it, but if he had a free choice, I don't believe any amount of money would tempt him.
We were paying £1/2 million for players 12/13 years ago when £1/2 million was a lot of money.
Sorry Kay, I think you're living in Roy of the Rovers world.
After the stick I got from some buggers about the 'Tilly signs 4 year MK Deal' thread a week or so back , I am going to say right from the outset that this thread is based purely on heresay and if anyone has high blood pressure , a weak heart or is of a fragile disposition , do not read on .
I had the misfortune last night to sit next to a Col Ewe fan at the cricket . Hadn't met him before but he reckoned he was well connected with the Ewes and knew their chairman quite well ( had apparently done work at his house on a regular basis ).From his comments about Sheringham, Cureton, Iwillyelemu he seemed to have an inside track. He was adamant that Tilson HAD been in contact with MKD and that this was being tracked by Col Ewe as he is being considered as a possible replacement at Cloud Cuckoo Land if things got off to a bad start.
He was also asking me tons of questions about Freddie Eastwood.
Now I don't know whether or not there is a shred of truth in this but it did set me thinking , what would it actually take for Tilly to be tempted ?
I shall be watching events surrounding Gillespie unfold with even more curiosity now.

Think your living in fantasy world there I'm afraid. No player or manager would turn down double the amount of wages (used as an example) purely because it is Col.U - At the end of the day its a job to them
Slow news day, huh? :D
No chance. Not in a million years.
Even if we entertain the idea that Tilly might, in principle, be tempted there are other factors. He lives in Wickford, and would have to be aware that he would be potentially openning both himself and those close to him to abuse. It's a sad fact, but a fact nonetheless.
Could Col Ewe offer enough of an increase over what we could afford to justify:
I would be highly surprised if they could, though given the strength of Tilly's ties to Southend I very much doubt that the question deserves the time I've given it. :)
- Uprooting his family
- Effectively starting over at a new club, without any step up in level, and having to earn trust from the board
- Trying to win over a crowd who might very well be extremely suspicious of him
On the kids issue, his oldest is just starting at senior school. Can you imagine the grief from fellow students if he went there? That's the point I'm making, teenagers can be very cruel.
Your probably right with alot of that but on those specific points
If the kids can't be up-rooted it's hardly a long and difficult commute is it ?
Col Ewe's Chairman is still smarting from the relegation and determined to be back up next season- RM is probably giving the same signals (I guess)?
The crowd will be won over by success and Tilly will need to remain successful to ensure the loyalty of Blues' fans any way ( not fair but fact imho )
I reckon it would depend on what RM permits Tilly to do and that must surely depend on what happens top RM

If you were in Tilly's shoes, having defected to Col Ewe, would you want your kids to still have to live here given that we have our share of idiots, like anyone else?
I think that Tilly has a job for life here, barring disaster, whereas what's the average length of employment for a new manager at a club? I don't know the man, but I suspect that Tilly has a very secure, profitable and prosperous future as the manager of Southend United. I don't see him giving it up and gambling unless he's offered a job which would constitute a significant step up.
He would get more stick in the fact that he only has one head and 2 arms than being a Southender!
Doubt if there would more than 2 kids who support Col.U anyway
