Quote[/b] (Flashing Blade @ Aug. 11 2006,15:20)]I think English football is very different now to when Liverpool signed Rush from Chester. In those days it was common practice to raid the lower leagues for the best players and the only foreign players were Scottish!
I remember what an attraction Mirandinha was at Newcastle when he first arrived. People flocked from miles around just because he was from another country.
These days, if Liverpool are looking for a forward they are going to go abroard (Kuyt, Gonzalez), a guy that's done it in the Prem for a lesser side (Crouch), or an 18-year-old whizzkid who is showing potential and is worth the investment.
Even Stan didn't go direct to Liverpool. He bridged the gap with two years at Forest first and showed he could hack it at that level.
And to even suggest that Freddy's sister would have a job...
Well Liverpool signed Crouch from Southampton. Perhaps they can see more potential in Freddy, you never know.

Please stay this season Freddy!

From that same site about Freddy,

Quote[/b] ]very interesting. obviously been scouted a lot, and must have the potential to make it in the big league.

dont see how we could lose with this one, young, wont cost a lot, and will be determined to show he can make the grade-kind of hope its true now- a true underdog story!!very interesting.

Quote[/b] (TonyTheKray @ Aug. 11 2006,14:57)]I wonder if Ronnie Whelan still has any contact and conversations with the backroom and main men at Anfield.

Afterall he's a very highly respected man at the club, and was a hero there in his playing days.

Whelan still has a soft spot for Southend, just look how many times he's been in the sky studio when we've been on the telly!

He's said good things about us, even though he was sacked by SUFC and let Tilly go on a free.

Watch this space i guess?
Sorry Tone but totally wrong on that point!
Whelan uses any Southend related outings on Sky Sports to voice his contempt from the club.  I know I'm not alone on here in those that think he's still bitter his one foray in English club management began & ended with us.

Had a lot of time for him as a player but he's turned into a bitter overweight stroker since his retirement!

I agree with glasgow, he never has anything good to say about us!

Not only that, but although Sky have employed him several times as a so-called "expert" on our live games, he clearly shows every time that he hasn't the first idea about the team, the players or recent performances as he isn't the slightest bit interested in following our fortunes, he just sprouts the usual broad generalisations about us being a small club, and if he appeared this season, he'd probably say we're punching above our weight and are favourites to go down.

The man is bitter, bitter, bitter.....

A guy from Manchester United was scouting Freddy Eastwood during one of our matches (Doncaster if I remember correctly)at Roots Hall towards the end of last season.

Naturally, I didn't believe that... but he showed me his ID and I called him a showoff.

Surprised nothing came of it then to be honest.

Maybe so, but he hasn't publicly slagged us off on sky when he's been on there IIRC.
Nope he has, although he's clever it's more the implied way he says everything plus he's always so under researched as far as we're concerned as another post says.

If I could be bothered, I'd search out the threads after the Southampton Sky game where we all posted our complaints that were sent to Sky for his awful punditry on the live game.

Not wanting to sound as if this rumour could be true, but just bear in mind the fact Freddy has recently changed Agents, and his new agent also is reponsible for Steven Gerrard...

Quote[/b] ]My second team is southend, Freddy is unbelievable, he scores for fun from inside and outside of the box, www.southendunited.co.uk, currently has a flash video of him scoring against swansea on the homepage. He is much beter than souhend, he is great on and off of the ball. He would be a good signing,

But, It is highly unlikely and he supports the Mancs, so cant see it happening

another comment from that site

Funny enough, watching the Liverpool game midweek with the fella I got to watch Southend with, we were talking about how many goals he'd score if he played for Liverpool as they create countless chances for their hapless strikers.

Eastwood would do well for Liverpool IMHO, but i dont want him to go...

£4-5 Million would be too good to turn down though

i think everyone will hate to see him leave, we can just hope he goes to another descent club:)
