Mitchell Cole

SZ's Official Accountant⭐🦐
Clearing space for someone else perhaps?

Stevenage Borough have confirmed that they have agreed a 5 figure fee with Southend United for 21 year old Mitchell Cole. The left sided midfielder is expected to join Boro today (Friday) and be part of the squad for Saturdays trip to Gravesend. Cole was signed by Southend in the summer of 2005 after impressive performances at Grays following his move from West Ham United and was part of the Southend team that won promotion to the Championship last May. This season, as well as appearing in the Championship, he has been on loan at League One Northampton Town. Cole renews his partnership with manager Mark Stimson who took him to Grays as an 18 year old. The winger is one of the fastest players that Mark Stimson has worked with, as he continues to strenghten his squad in the transfer window.

Quite surprised by that to be honest, and a little dissapointed.

Shame the lad has so much ability, maybe not the mental one to go with it though..

Good luck to him.

Hopefully we will hear that Roy O'Donovan is joining now...

I thought you only quoted figures before the decimal point these days. :p

It's a shame in my eyes.

He had massive potential BUT never lived upto it!

Whenever I saw him he looked like he wasn't to bothered and showed little desire.

his biggest problem was that he didnt want the ball... he always hid or stood too close to the fullback, unlike jcr or gower who will become an option by pulling away from their marker. Cole is a massive talent but just hasn't got his head screwed on at the moment, and I think going to Stevenage is a step down too far for him, he could definitely cut it in at least league 2 IMO

shame, but not a surprise.
A player that more often or not flattered to decieve.
One for the pile "tried but failed" - room for a newby though !!!

Another Kightly scenario?
Drops back down to get regular games & bulk up a bit, then some other team will buy him for £££s and reap the benefit.......

Thought he could have done more, last season he had his moments but wasn't in the game as often as he should be.

Wish him luck though because he could be a good player one day

i think you are right there.. no one doubts his talent, but his physique and mental ability at the moment... would have prefered to keep loaning him out

Surprised he is dropping that far down.

He added an extra dimension to our attacking play in our championship season and his crossing was key in our run of 8 consecutive wins.

Disappointed Tilly didn't use him more this season, as despite his mental and physical frailties, I think he still had something to offer, particularly coming off the bench. The fact that Tilly didn't get more out of him is IMHO a relatively rare black mark on Tilly's generally highly impressive managerial CV.

Never got the attitude that he needed

I'd say that he got the feeling he had made it. Not that he was at all arrogant but he just seemed to think he was at the peak of his game. I was never convinced that he was hungry enough. Start of last season I thought him and Lawson were on a similar level but Cole had more potential. Lawson, at least, seems to realise he has a lot of work to do on his game if he wants to fulfil his potential.

He is far too lightweight for this level of football, every team he played against new the heavy challenge in the first 10 mins would either see him subbed or go missing for the remainder of the match

Blimey, maybe we could let a few more players go and try to stay up with a squad of 11 players!

Madness letting him go IMO, he has talent, we have absolutely no cover on the left wing without him and a huge prospect for the future.

Why the insistance of letting more players go when we havent got enough as it is?

Have to agree, with our small squad wouldn't it be a better idea to get a player in before one leaves, what with Smith going this week as well. Hopefully someone will join before the end of jan, just hope Gower doesn't get injured or JCR suspended.
Great news on the stadium but if the squad isn't added too soon I fear Martin has got his priorities wrong.... let's face it Roots Hall aint that bad compared to some..

With you one get people in front Evlis my old son but not sure keeping Coley at the club is more important that a new stadium personally.
