Yeah I seem to remember last season us on about signing the forward Luke Guttridge, I reckon he could do a job there.

Petts definitely played the majority of last season on the right.

Now we have Cole it'll be very interesting to see how the midfield shapes up. Gower could now be earmarked for the right flank if his injury problems are sorted out but I can also see Bentley being switched there if Smith gets back to his best in pre-season. I'm also intrigued to see where Guttridge will fit in - he showed glimpses of class towards the end of last season and if he gets fully fit he'll surely be knocking on the door, especially as he was signed on a three-year deal (so he's obviously in Tilly's plans somewhere).

That leaves Petts - now I like the guy and it's difficult to question someone who played every game in a promotion-winning season but it will be interesting to see whether Tilly sticks with him in a more solid shape or becomes more dynamic. Maher, of course, is a certain starter.

Look beyond his goal-scoring record; he's a vital member of the team, as recongnised by Tilly (think he was nearly ever-present last season) - he provides balance in midfield: if we had two attacking wingers we wouldn't have had the defensive record we had, last year, imo.

Petts obviously does a job defensively, but he adds next to nothing going forward. On Gower's worst games last season (of which there were a few towards the end of last season undoubtably) he still poseds more problems for the opposition.

you can't knock his workrate or his commitment, but we're going to be playing better teams this yer and we're going to need a lot more guile and ability to break sides down.

Guttridge is a central midfielder and became pretty highly sort after by playing there. We shouldn&#39;t even consider switching him about. I for one am pretty excited about a fully fit Guttridge playing for us this year. Lets face it he was no way near 100% at the tail end of last season when he signed.

Oh, and as the first person on here to champion the fact we should look at Mitchell Cole months ago, I might have to have a word with Tilly on Saturday to see if I can have a job as a scout.

Good to see you are someone who has no idea about football then. Many cant see the amount of work Pettefer does, many cant. he does so much, his positional play is exceptional, and he is a good player to have. I agree he is not a winger, and does not beat players, or do enouh offensive work, but CRAP HE IS NOT&#33;&#33;&#33;

You rave about Fred this boy will be the same on the left and will make the same if not bigger impact.

Very Tricky, Pacey Sweet Left Foot, Good Head on Shoulders and scores goals.  Will also be your dead ball expert now, scored 2 goals from corners last year (although doubt he will get away with it in league 1)

We are gutted but also we live in real world where we  know we wont keep these players for ever.
