Mildenhall causes Wiggy quit shocker!

Anyway keeper aside this team is shaping up to be the worst for years, no Mulgrew as well!
Bloody hell, it must be tough being so relentlessly optimistic.

Seriously, who the heck judges a forthcoming season on what we do in a friendly? I remember, under Little, we beat Palace 4-0 one pre-season... absolutely murdered 'em, Tolson bagged a brace. Surely, we would be going up that season?

Or not. More mid-table nonsense under Little.

If it's all the same, I'll wait until the real football starts before I judge whether Mildenhall is any cop - and before I start writing off the squad and/or one of the most successful managers this club has ever known.

God, I hate pre-seasons and knee-jerk reactions.

you and me both. Now is not the time to be judging players, friendlies are about fitness and match time.

The way that some have written you'd have thought we'd lost 5-0 to Southend Manor.

I was right behind it, and it was in as soon as it left his boot, no way Milders would have got anywhere near it even if he had dived.

Same here, had the perfect view of it, the shot was just inside the post and no keeper would have saved it. Pretty certain Flavs would have just watched it sail into the corner as well.

when you change your tune, I will change mine!

lets say the cha cha

cachhchahcahchahcaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaachahcachachaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

We looked a lot tighter from set pieces with Mildenhall in goal & made a decent save from Murphy that Flavs would have been struggling to get to!

Just my opinon but anyone who is really happy because they think they have been proved right even though it would mean bad news for the club they claim to support needs to take a long hard look at themselves.
Its often said the ShrimperZone is all about opinions and here's another one of mine - there are far too many posters on here who are either deliberately negative just to try to wind up their fellow fans or who take a genuinely negative view of everything associated with the club.
Perhaps there is a need for two ShrimperZones - one for all the doom-mongers and wind-up merchants and one for the rest of us.

Saw it on SSN this morning. I reckon Mildenhall was unsighted as well. Great shot through Barrett's legs and no chance for the keeper.

wiggy the drama queen?

'The replacement keeper for my football team has put in a poor performance in a friendly so I'm never posting on an Internet forum again'

The end is nigh.

You are misrepresenting Wiggy in suggesting (s)he was overreacting to Mildenhall's performance in a friendly.

It was Mildenhall's performance in a warm-up to a friendly that s(he) was so upset about.

Personally i reckon Wiggy has seen that Mildenhall will prove to be better than Flavs over the season and has therefore decided to pick up on one thing she doesn't like, throw it into the mix and storm off, thinking that by not being here no-one will bother to pick her up over the forthcoming matches.

Early days but have to agree with Wiggy on this one. I have never mentioned anything about Mildenhall, either negative or positive, but even my 10 year old looked at me and said 'who the hell is that in goal'....... After that performance, the defence will have zero confidence in the man behind them, which is a massive worry. Again, early days but expected better. (Did anyone notice how he didn't even attempt a dive when the 2nd goal went in)??

I bet he is replaced as our Nr 1 well before the season is over.

Saw the goal on Sky and it went straight through Barrett's legs, Mildenhall was unsighted.

What worries me most about this is that we have heard nothing about a possible replacement for Wiggy from the site owners.
Theres no way Tony the Kray can cut it on his own up front, and frankly an immediate replacement has to found.
I know that Cricko has a war chest put aside to cover the loss of sh!te posters and fully expect he is on the Man utd or Chelsea fan sites as we speak looking at replacements.
Is it too much too to ask that we get some sort of official statement from the site owners about what is going on?
Also surely this should be covered on the front page, not some old cr@p about a new stadium being built.

Cant get a happy medium here can we.

Last season ball goes over Barrett's head, Flahaven unsighted, goal.

Quality. Fully agree that mcnasty & Cricko must go if we continue with the current Tictacs.

We're completely bereft of left wing posters & far too many wide men (literally in some cases :) ) who think they can post up front ideas. Also the height of our backers is a worry to me.

I am most upset about this. We haven't had time for an official statement, we have been too busy at the Leyton Orient vs Melchester Rovers friendly trying to lure "Moanie Minnie" onto the board as substitute to Wiggy.
MM's viscous lead-from-the-front attitude when tackling big issues such as cold tea in the Birdbrain Road ground has rendered opposing teams with such dread that Roy of the Rovers pretended to have haemorrhoid problems so he didn't have to play.
Moanie Minnie would be an asset to the Zone with her up-front tactics, clever use of the volleyed criticism regarding players she doesn't like and constructive views on the namby-pamby attitude of supporters and we are willing to pay Martin Ling a full week of Cricko's pension to sign the Orient's supporter of the year. It could be a bright SUFC in 2008.

Maybe you can fill the position? go on i reckon your ideal.

it is my pleasure to confirm that we would have won or maybe drawn this game if Darryl had been playing -

the cross that beat the giraffe between the sticks was a sunday league up and under-ish punt and the person now wearing the SUFC shirt did a rather
laughable star jump at the last moment having completely misjudged it -

having played together for years Darryl would have known Barretts wide open stance is an invite for the through legs shot for the second and covered it ....

I am only half joking ...

Darryl was always extremely popular at Southend because he was good standard keeper - he was one of the players who came up the leagues with us and because a lot of supporters empathasized with some of the challenges he had overcome in his personal life -

don't want to over egg the last point but I think there will always be a lot of admiration for anyone who goes off the rails a bit and gets it back together -

I believe women find him attractive as well -

sometimes a player strikes a chord with supporters and it might be a bond that is more emotional than rational but if Petr Cech was signed I would still rather Darryl had stayed and played -

regardless I believe he has done the right thing for his career (was he not once at clubs like Havant and Woking?) and family by going to Palace and I am well pleased for him and sorry for the keepers who have to take his place -

perhaps the Yank is our only hope

I can't believe that he's been written off already. From reading reports from a lot of Yeovil fans after he signed, I had a fair idea of what kind of keeper Mildenhall is - an outstanding shot-stopper who isn't great on crosses. A taller version of Flahavan, if you will. That's fine with me - if he can keep Darryl's reflexes and shot-stopping and learn to dominate his six yard box (which being the size that he is he's got far more of a chance to do) then we'll be doing well. He won't be perfect, he'll cost us goals along the way but he'll have to be doing something very bad to cost us as many as Flavs has in the past couple of years.

This was pretty similar to my take on Mildenhall. At our level most keepers (and outfield players come to think of it) will have one or more major weakness - if they were the perfect article they'd most likely be plying their trade in a higher division.

I never had much of a problem with Flahavan while he was playing for us - I figured that for any other faults he was a pretty decent shot-stopper and seemed to have the reaction speed. I also think that an awful lot of the recent blame flung his way was as much to do with the lack of a commanding centre-back - Prior, Sodje etc.

I think Flahavan's main problem is that his weakness (the lack of height) is visually very obvious, and so even without doing their homework most half decent attacking players can try to take advantage of that. With taller, more physically imposing keepers like Mildenhall (or Joyce) their weaknesses aren't so obvious to the opposition, so their chances of being found out are reduced...
