Mid-Season Review

I think that too often we play with very little confidence and will choose a low risk sideways or backwards pass rather than a forward pass or run forward/shot at goal.
When it was us Vs the world we seemed to have much more confidence and the results were better.
Its up to the management team to instil that confidence and positive style of play from the midfield and strikers whilst the defence stay strong.
Appiah Forson is a player who looks to move with the ball and go forward but gets limited playing time much to my frustration.

Hoping for a positive attacking midfielder and a better striker in the new year.

We are 10 points off the top 6. If we can have W9, D8 and L6 in the next 23 games, we'd be onto something.

The next 3 games
Ebbsfleet bottom of the league
Braintree in the bottom 4 and losing their best players daily. Financial basket case
FA trophy against a team in the division below.

Imho nothing but 3 wins will be good enough.

Lose 2 out of 3 of these and pull the plug on the management

Over the last twenty seasons only Eastwood has scored more goals in a season than Cardwell. Not Stan, nor Lee, nor Leon..... so I reckon Cardwell gets close to the latter three! Clearly the standard of the opposition he was playing against was lower for Harry - but so was the standard of his team mates.

Are you suggesting that replacing a striker who scored 18 goals last season with those who struggle to score at all has had little effect on our fortunes this year? Give over YB.....🙂

No. If you read what I wrote, you'll see that's not what i said at all. You pinned it all on those 2 leaving though, as if that was the silver bullet. It isn't.

And if we win all three, stop criticising the manager perhaps???
It won’t work that way , win three it’s expected by some and then they can get their claws into the management when losing and endure another 1000 posts of same old same old sadly

surely its entitled to be the "same old same old" until things change and we play attractive football and start winning games.....

We should win all three of these upcoming games. However, there will be little credit gained as even at this low water mark in our fortunes, there are still some sides worse than us, such as Ebbsfleet, Braintree and Southport. Failure to win all three convincingly should be a matter of concern to even the most blinkered Maher disciple but no doubt the usual tedious list of excuses will be trotted out again in that event.

As a retired bank manager I can remember countless self styled businessmen who han't got a clue, many more who got lucky and one or two who actually knew what they were doing. It's probably even more so nowadays with speculation, cryptocurrencies and hedge funds all contributing to the myth.

Did you spend your time slagging them on different threads only to be proved totally wrong?

Its always those that have never risked £1 in any business who sneer at those who do.

Agreed and will depend on how we win those games. Three edgy, nervy close one nil or two one wins would be very different to three, three nil wins with front foot football.

Hoping for the latter…

I particularly recall firemen with too much time on their hands who suddenly became 'property developers' in the 90s and came to grief buying granny's council house at a knock down price, spending a fortune on tarting it up and then failing to find a buyer.

Merry Christmas to you too.

Unless you succumb to a mid table finish and go again next year.

I did that after about 5 games 😬

This is the thing I can’t understand..how some fans are just accepting of a mid table finish. I fork out a lot of my hard earned watching Southend so I expect us to go out to win. As long as play offs are achievable I expect us to go for them. Just thinking ‘ah never mind we’ll do better next season’ .. sorry no.

im not happy about it, it sucks. But its very very early days in this new cosu era. And we all know the many reasons why this season hasnt gone to plan.

Id like to see an upturn in terms of entertainment and lack of predictability, and kev trying to recitify what seem to be glaring errors in his strategy.

These are things i assume the hierarchy should be keeping an eye on too. But they are all new to the job too.
