So would Ron be welcomed back in 20 years time then, after gaining further experience of running another football club ???

Interesting article, The fact that Mark Rubin wrote it seems to show that he still has an interest in being part of a takeover of SUFC. I like the digs at RM and I agree with him that the "fit and proper person test" should be applied much stricter, especially in the case of Ron Martin.

Why "especially in the case of Ron Martin"? Because he's skint?

Endless reasons, things that the League could check out are: Looking at the club owners business activities. eg how many CCJ's against companies owned by that person. Enquiries about his or his companies credit worthiness. Compliance with regulations regarding the running of a football club (non payment to players, HMRC , supporters etc.) Does the person have any criminal record (not suggesting Ron does).
There are many tests of a persons competence that could be carried out.

But they all boil down to the same thing, which is a shortfall of money. He didn't have that shortfall of money when he took the Club on, hence why this nonsense about 'fit and proper person' test is a complete red herring.

Ron Martin's "crime" is that he isn't a wealthy man and that his businesses have suffered hugely in the recession. Unless the test is purely based on how large his bank account was I don't see how he'd have failed any test that most of us wouldn't have failed.

It is a pity they did not use (fit and proper person's test) when they sold the club to Anton Johnson, which ultimately caused so much grief for the supporters.

And of course there was no fit and proper persons test when the Rubins brothers took over after inheriting the club from their father. I recall they couldn't wait to cash in by selling to the highest bidder but then it was a long timeago so I might be judging them unfairly

fit and proper and wealth are two different things.
Abramavich is wealthy, however, is all that wealth derived from legitimate means ?? I am not saying whether it is or not, however to amass the fortune he has, I assume some corners were 'cut'.
As someone said, Ron would have passed the fit and proper person test when he took the club over. The fact that he now appears to have failed some of the Southend fans 'fit and proper person' test is another thing, especially when you consider that people are saying the Rubin is now a better alternative EVEN though he has a history with the Club that didnt make good reading - but suppose, he is a different business man now, as someone said !!:stupidme:

I think ultimately the Rubins will at some stage be involved at the club again . The problem is they dont want to pay for the club nor do they want to deal with Ron martin . For the short term i cant see anything happening.

Personally it would be great to see a change of management and with the club on its knees it would have been a great time for them to come in. I think Ron martin would have sunk the club rather than sell or walk away.

Bit of a stalemate at the moment. Only way out is for Ron to build the ground and development make his money and then leave the club.

Unfortunately we are a very long way from all that

Not necessarily true, I think it was more a case of RM not wanting to deal with them. The funds to purchase the club would also not have been a problem if the seller had been prepared to listen to their offer(s).

Agree with the stalemate comment though.

Yes.But he's got to start buiding work on FF before the end of June 2011 or the merry-go-round will start again.

By funds i presume you are talking the £1 the consortium offered to buy the club. As far as i could tell the consortium could buy the club tomorrow , but they are unwilling to pay the price it would take for Ron martin to move on.
