Mark Gower

Getting fed up with all the stick Mark Gower gets.
What does he have to do to stop the criticism.
He had a great game at Northampton, worked really hard, tracked back when he had to, was certainly our most dangerous player going forward, and created just about every chance we had.
Absolute garbage to say he didn't help out when we defended, he tracked back whenever Northampton broke. And as for where he was standing for corners, I suggest that you refer to ST and PB for that, because players are directed by them. If not why would Moussa give their wide left player acres of space whenever they were in possession.
I can understand fans frustration when either the team or individual players are not having the best of games, but for God's sake give the guy some credit when he does everything that was asked of him.
I thought he had a great game.
Well done Mark Gower.

Not sure what happened yesterday at Northampton, certainly on the radio it come accross that Gower had dramatically improved. However some of the people who have since posted who presumably went to Sixfields have said he had another stinker.
Someone is telling us porkies.

Either way i get neg rep so there!!!

Gower was definitely an improvement yesterday, but still bottled too many 50/50 challenges.

If say the Carlisle game he was 2/10, yesterday was 5/10

Why do these ****ing ****ers do it...

Great idea lads lets hound out Mark Gower because hes not much good after all is he. Lets get one of the many other great wingers that are out there and within our budget shall we????!!!!!!!!

Rather that Gower leaving I wish these ****ers that are slagging him off would **** off to Colchester where they belong.

10 goals from midfield last season, countless assists and almost ever present would make you a hero at most clubs but come to South Essex and it will get you abused by a ****ing stupid minorty.

Gower is always a player I've got a lot of time for - I wasn't at the Carlisle game so I can't comment, but yesterday he infuriated me by not having a crack at goal and passing to Hooper who it seems has no idea of the offside rule. Hopefully he'll be back to his best soon and banging them in.

Gower had a cracker last season, and it wasn't his first, but does this make him exempt from criticism now that he's having a general stinker of a time? Of course not.

Note, however, I did say criticism and not mindless abuse.

Top post. And judging by his recent outbursts pretty much what Mark Gower probably thinks too.

If you want to critise him down the oub with your mates or on this forum then by all means that is your perogative but doing it in his ear is both pointless and destructive.

We are third in the legue for ****s sake and still people find time to abuse our own players. I really wonder what it will take for people to be happy.

Again, that's a very good point. But what if someone just shouts at him (admittedly, it's unlikely without any swearing etc) 'Come on, shift yourself Gower'? I wouldn't see this being a problem, but he seems to be reacting to things like this as well at the moment.

Gower has had poor runs of form before, usually when he is struggling for fitness. His performances in the last few weeks have not been up to standard for him. However yesterday he was much better, and hopefully it will be the start of his return to form.

Give him a few more games and he will be bang on form again and be the first name on the team sheet.

sorry mate but this is a load of rubbish. he did not have a great game and did not track back.

You obviously have a vast footballing knowledge and know better than most. I think you were, however, either not watching or not concentrating on the game.

Mark Gower did everything that could have been asked of him at Northampton. He worked tirelessly and it's only, I believe, confidence lacking, that caused him on a couple of occasions to pass rather than shoot.

It's because of constant criticism from people such as yourself that cause this lack of confidence and I wonder how many games Leon Clarke will go without scoring before you start shooting him down.

Some people are really never happy.

Mark Gower is class and will soon be back to his old self I thought he played ok at northampton, he one of my favourite players for sure.

I think Gower would be more effective if he had strikers ahead of him with any sense of positioning or anticipation (Leon aside). No pace or movement up front on saturday, I thought he did well in the circumstances.

"Surely as well if your big enough to shout abuse you should be big enough to take it."

Sums it up quite nicely.

Give abuse, take abuse, don't whinge about abuse.

Time for the Truce??

Have you ever wished you had never started a thread?

Although there still seems to be some disagreement on whether Gower played Brilliantly/Well/Ok/Rubbish on Saturday, the main thing was that we won and in my view he must have made some contribution to that. That is certainly more encouraging. Also whilst against Carlisle, nobody said he played well on here, against Northampton there were people who said he did play well (and it certainly came across that way on the radio). That must be an improvement. I think that a big away game vs Forest is the incentive that may be needed to raise all of our players game to be honest. Lets just hope we don't get overwhelmed like we did 2 seasons ago.

The feelings have been made known now, now it's time for the form to improve. Come on Mark Gower, prove me wrong! I really don't want to be right about what i was saying. I want you to play well, i certainly know you are capable enough.

Yeah, agree 100% Steve.

We all want Mark (and the rest of the lads to perform well), the G Man is vital to the side with his telling crosses and goals from midfield.

Here's fingers crossed for three more points tomorrow, that could see us go top of the league.

I too am going to come down on the side of Mark Gower.

I feel he is one of, if not our best creative player. Above average crosser of the ball, ability to cut inside, which always keeps doubts in the opposing full back, above average vision, good shot with both feet, and, for a winger good goalscoring record.

On the down side, lacks stamina and a little short on pace. But hey, if he was loaded with both of those abilities as well, then he wouldn't be playing for us.

Yes at times he is frustrating, and getting caught offside for a wide player is frustrating, but he gives amore to the team when he is in it than alot of other players who play wide.

He has always struck me as a confidence player, and as such, getting on his back when he is going through a poor spell will not help him at all, as he will be well aware of the standards he is capable of. So I'm backing him all the way to come through this spell, chip in with a couple of goals, and get back on top of his game, because if he's doing well, then we will be doing even better than now!
