Mark Gower

Quote of the match must surely go to Lewis Hunt.
After the ref told him to shut up he replied by calling him a prick.

He should have used the old line.

"Ref what would you do if I called you a C*nt"

Ref "I will send you off"

Player "What would you do if I think you're a c*nt"

Ref "Nothing"

Player "Then I think you are a c*nt"

I'm sorry but how can you be surprised he reacted like that? If I have someone less inclined to comment tells me how to do my job and I know things are not going right you will more than likely get the same reply. The standard of football you played at on a Sunday morning or not at all is far diferent to playing in front of 10,000 people with whom some always think they know better without playing the game within that environment. I know how fustrating it gets.

Today i had the misfortune of being at the end of a Mark Gower 4 letter rant! Mark has not been in the best of form this season (some might say he's been s**t) compared to previous seasons anyway. In fact today i heard that he may have caught something from JCR:hilarious: .Today in the 2nd half Gower crossed from the byline in the South East corner only for the ball to go over everyone in the box. Now Lewis Hunt picked the ball up on the right flank with the intention of crossing it back into the box, however Gower would have been offside. I shouted from the South Upper to Gower "Come on Gower, move it!" However, Gower just turned around and said "F*** off!"

Now, i don't think that i was wrong to tell the lazy toe-rag to get back onside, after all we wanted the move to continue, but was the abuse back necessary?

hes probably just read yor posts and thinks your a ****.......

Right my side of the story.

As a lot of you will know i sit three seats along from Ldn Fatso and have done for a few seasons now. I get on great with him and is really think of him as a good mate.

Howerver I think Gower was quote right to tell Steve to **** off. Gower as Ldn Fatso says had over hit the ball and was watching the flight of the ball. Hunt was there to return it but had not even got the ball under control before Steve shouted at Gower something along the lines of "Move your lazy **** Gower" in quite an aggressive manner. I at the same time had shouted something along the lines of "Keep going Mark"..

Now I agree Gower has been cack all season but he had plenty of time to get back in and he had of course just run 20-30 yards at full pelt so possibly needed a breather.

I dont agree personally with abuse of your own players at the match and especially not one of the more talented and longer serving players such as Gower. For my mind if you have nothing positive to say then say nothing. Gower knows he is out of form and dosent need us to tell him.

Surely as well if your big enough to shout abuse you should be big enough to take it.

If you want to critise anyone then I would blame Tilly for letting JCR go and not replacing him leaving us with just two wingers.

I am going to neg Steve now to show my disgust at his Gower bashing.

I sit two along the other side of LDNFatso and I heard Steve "cane" the G Man but missed Mark having a pop back at him but I agree that he has been poor all season.

We are missing the G Man banging in quality crosses and popping one home from 25 yards and are a poorer side for it.

Steve hope you're not gonna be emotionally scarred by this abuse, can I offer some form of counciling to get you through this !!!!

ok, my right to reply. I understand that slagging off your own player may not help but as a paying spectator i expect effort. If i am not doing my job properly at work, sure, customers would complain. I think Gower is a very creative and talented player but we must face facts and he is not in form at the moment and i don't see an awful lot of reason for him to be on the pitch at all if he can't be arsed in simply running back to an onside position to keep a move going after putting yet another sub-standard ball in the box.

If, as was stated earlier by Dts he needed a breather, then he shouldn't be on the pitch at all because this was about 10 minutes into the 2nd half and with all the stoppages yesterday i'd be surprised anybody was out of breath. Perhaps a few weeks in the stiffs may help.

Dts's other comment about being big enough to take it if i dish it out is fair enough but like me at work Gower should not be exempt from criticism.

Christ, you're not in the East stand are you Fiftyone?

Bloke near me has been moaning about Marky G and Captain Kev for the last 4yrs.With Maher on the bench today i was hoping Gower would have a good game,if only to keep this guy near me schtum, but oooohhhh nnnnoooo.

I have never heard this bloke praise ANYONE :thump:

Yes I do sit in the East Stand but am not the guy to whom you refer.
King Kev can do (almost) no wrong in my eyes and I am usually a supporter of Gower but he has been poor in the last two homes games.
Perhaps he is missing his mate Kev out on the pitch?.

Relief!:D How anyone can be so venomous to two of our players who helped us achieve so much in recent years is beyond me.
You could have a point there.Maybe he is demonstrating that he cannot click with Macca and Bailey and this is the reason for his poor form? ;)

As a matter of interest Steve which one of the clubs many other left wingers would you like to replace Gower with while he gets his form back. :hilarious:

It's a fair point, maybe Charlie Ademeno or a well Richie Foran but a off form Gower is just not effective enough. Slate me if you like, but thats the way i feel.

Hail G-man! you are quickly becoming the new Wiggy!

Just for the record Gower lost the ball 6 ( six ) times in the first 15 mins. He had Another STINKER. Why Tilly didnt replace him at half time ( at the latest ) says loads about Tilson too . Not only does Gower lose the ball with poor control if you watch him closely he makes bad runs and takes up positions where he can hide during the game . Is he very lucky to be starting first team football at the moment as for him moving to a CCC side ,i can only say that whoever they were must be releived they didnt sign him.

That's gash, mate. The last thing you can ever say about Mark Gower is that he hides on the field. Sometimes I wish he did hide instead of demanding the ball even when he's woefully off form.

Well if mine is gash i have to say yours is double Gash. He does hide , he does take up bad positions , he does make wrong runs at wrong times he does commit to tackles when he shouldnt , he just makes too many wrong decisions and on a bad day he couldnt control a bag of cement. His first touch is often woeful and ............. i could go on. But i'll refer you to the fact i posted earlier that on Saturday he lost possession either by bad control or a misplaced pass 6 times in the first 15 mins on Saturday FACT. It is getting to the stage that the rest of the our team are starting to retreat and get ready to defend when the ball goes to him . Now , all players have bad spells for sure and I hope to see him come thru the other side soon but i worry that Tilson couldnt see how bad he was and didnt change it.

I'm not disagreeing with any of that - I personally think he's our best player but regardless he's clearly having a nightmare at the moment. I'm disagreeing with your claim that he "hides" on the pitch when no matter how badly he is playing he always wants the ball. He always makes himself available for the ball and his teammates always look to pass it to him as soon as they can. You saying that he hides on the field simply is not true.
