Manager Sacking and Appointment Thread

Think it will cost Plymouth big time to sack Rooney and bring in another manager, Seriously can they afford it , I have no idea on the wealth of there owner .

As I said in post #1,221, a couple of his players said, great player, but useless Manager.
I honestly believe if in the premier with players of his skill he would be ok, but like many dropping down leagues with just average players it takes its toll and this is where management skills are needed
Hope he gets another chance, lots of managers appear on the roundabout so maybe once again he will surface

It's been demonstrated time and time again that ex internationals at the highest level often fail as managers. Bobby Moore was a classic example way back, Bobby Charlton was not a roaring success nor was Geoff Hurst, Nobby Styles and others from that era. Present day, Lampard, Gerrard and now Rooney joins the list. Vastly different skill set needed to be a successful manager. Sorry, forgot to mention that Campbell chap as well.

He has finally gone. His record combined with both Plymouth and Birmingham must be amongst the worse ever for a manager.
4 clubs (Derby, DC , Brum and Plymouth) he has managed 177 games 183 points thats 1.0134 points per game (equiv 48 points per season for over 3.8 seasons )

Its even worse if you exclude his 11 games as Derby Caretaker, Full time manager 166 games 170 points 1.024 Points per game (equiv 47 points per season for over 3.6 seasons )
Relegation battle form throughout , but enough to avoid the drop in recent years except last year.

How many more instances of preventing an up and coming manager for further progression do you think he is worthy of?

I’d like to see two changes. First any sacked manager cannot join a new club in the same or higher division. Second no club should be permitted to sack a manager in the same season of their appointment.

I like the second idea but I don't like the first. There are several basketcase clubs that will sack managers for very stupid reasons. It would be very unfair to prohibit managers from joining another club just because they had the misfortune of being sacked by an idiot.

John Eustace for example was sacked by Birmingham not because he was doing a bad job (they were 6th when he was fired), it was because they wanted to hire Rooney. If this rule came in then not only would Eustace have been unfairly sacked he also would have been banned from managing Blackburn (who he currently has at 5th in the table).

Second point I agree , first point you would have a managers strike on your hands re freedom of work movement
