Prosser is and always has been out and out ******ing useless.
He has improved because he could not get any worse. What ever we paid him was too much.
He can not pass a ball to a team mate.
Can't hold the ball.
Hoofer. good riddance.

I still find it quite incredible that anybody could harbour that kind of opinion on Prosser, and is evidence enough that some are still relying on Prosser's early displays. Last year, Prosser was our stand-out defender on many occasions and I'd be willing to suggest that Cresswell and Phillips both loved playing alongside him. He's left-footed, so appeals to both Phillips and Cresswell in that sense, and he's vocal on the pitch - which makes up for what was a glaring weakness in Smith's game.

He's a League 2 defender, passing is not top of his main responsibilities.

This is a thread about Prosser not Smith :whistling:

Amazing how poorly some people view him, think it has to do with the belief that he "hoofs" at every opportunity and they can't get past that.

I think he's hugely under-rated and will be a big miss if he goes. Solid and stabilising and utterly dependable, if he's not been offered a much improved contract to what he was on, then that's our mistake and our loss should he go.

If this new contract was on the same terms as his old one, I don't blame him.

Was one of our most consistent performers last season, and is very underated by the fans in my opinion.

I think you both overrate him

Has he improved - yes. Very much so. And he is better when he has the "right type" of midfielders in front of him so that he has an outlet for the ball and help/assistance.

Would I give him (Prosser) a contract on the same money as an experienced defender with league 2 pedigree ........ not sure about that. Or rather yes, if I could afford him to be mainly on the bench/back-up but no if he was not to be part of my plans for the first XI come August.

He was a bit-part player presumably on bit-part money when we signed him.

He is less of a bit-part player than he was, and so presumably wants improved terms. Seems reasonable enough to me - just comes down to how much Brown is prepared to sacrifice of him salary budget in order to keep him.

Fairly standard for players to reject contract offers. Not so standard for this to make the news.

Why has this been leaked? Does the player and his agent want a little bit of attention to get a better deal either at SUFC or elsewhere - ofcourse they do!

Leaks? Back page of the Echo, with PB telling all

Read all the posts on this thread and concluded Luke Prosser is Mr Marmite.
IMO he improved a lot last year , was always vocal , always worked hard and was one of our better defenders.
Poor effort if they let him go.

Although Luke Prosser seems to be genuine and gives 100% is he really of the calibre needed if we aim to get out of this division. When you consider the defenders we had when we were last promoted from this division then he falls way short, especially if he is considered as a centre-back.

Just shows how lame an poor our little club has become again. I would be happy to keep luke i think he is ever improving an we need all the bodies we can at the minute!

Just like Cresswell's agent you mean?

I am more concerned about just having the calibre of players to keep us in this division.

He's not useless as one poster put, and has improved greatly. That being said he has some major weaknesses. His distribution is awful. For me though his biggest problem is having no ability at all to defend a low ball into the box, which cost is quite a few goals this season.

The trouble with this thread is that no one knows what his wages were, and what he's been offered.

Is he entitled to a pay rise based on his improvement?
Probably, but certainly if his last deal reflected his ability at the time.

Is he irreplaceble for a decent league 2 defenders wage?
No

Really nice lad but L2 squad player at best. Putting the finances to one side a minute if the aim is promotion this year then the only thing that surprises me is that he was offered a contract in the first place.

A totally disrespectful post. He may not be the most favoured or complete Centre Half but he has shown immense improvement as well as being a much improved player since he arrived here. Also is voval so his leadership skills in that sense would be missed. Especially if Crssswell Goes too. Of course IF Luke goes himself.

Prosser would be decent makeweight in a L2 squad and nothing more. On his day he's good enough but he's never going to a commanding figure at the back. Effort in abundance, good attitude, would be happy for him to stay but mainly as cover.

Not overly concerned if he was to go, he'll be easy enough to replace.
