Low Cost VAR in National League?

I'm not in favour of this. Refereeing is a nightmare and they need more support because the pressure and pace of the game is massive even this far down the pyramid.

A lot of people seem afraid to change their mind and sometimes things like this can help, lord knows we have seen some absolute HOWLERS given against us. If the ref had 60 seconds to review and possible alter their decision, would they do it? Maybe if it was limited to red cards and penalties only?

It's not as easy cut and dried as it first appears imo but waying it up against the appalling experience for those in attendance when a VAR review is conducted means I'm not keen.

It's a no from me.

But could be a comedy aspect where the video is brought down the west stand ladder, popped into a Betamax player pitch side and then the ref fast forwards the video reviewing the incident. Even more so if the camera operator hadn't kept up with play
Edited for the more likely technology we have up that ladder. 😁😁

It most certainly wasn't! But, as I said, to get one over the Germans because of a dodgy linesman's call makes it all the sweeter to me.
I can’t prove it was over but sounds like you have proof it wasn’t a goal,go on I’m all ears.

I've seen a computer simulation which showed the ball bounced dead on the line. This was years ago, before VAR existed. It was on TV, but (unsurprisingly I guess) it didn't gain much traction in this country! Certainly the whole ball didn't cross the whole of the line.

But as I said, to me that just makes it better.

Fortunately we have an archive video of an unbiased Scottish commentator on the "goal".

OT but I knew this would be a McKallister YT vod the moment I saw it. If anybody needs a good laugh then check out his YT channel - the vod where he covers the England-Germany WC game with the Lampard ghost-goal had me in stitches!

Back on topic though..I have a better idea. It's a bit radical I know but...how about not having useless refs in the first place?

Rugby league/ Union Var has improved the game, but then players have different mentality to footballers
The okey difference with rugby is that when the TMO is being used the game has already stopped. So in the instance of try being reviewed the game has stopped anyway as the result will either be a try or a scrum to the opposition.

The other element I like is the on field referee requests the TMO not the other way round. Although I like the option of managers have a limited number of reviews that they can choose to use.

VAR is that annoying bloke who pops up thinking they know best

My conspiracy theory. It won't belong before adverts are slotted in whilst VAR decisions are being considered and substitutions being made.
I love a conspiracy theory.. and this one is spot on. Give it a few years and ……..
This VAR break is bought to you by Budweiser light !!
We will take you back to your product, er I mean game, after this message.

Lampards was definitely over the line versus Germany a few world cup finals ago. But not given .I think thats what bought about the introduction off VAR . Saying that if things keep going as is soon we will be like American football only difference being when a manager dosent agree with a decisin or see s a foul not given he will be the one to throw in a chequered rag to stop the game and view a replay ..

If we had VAR, we would be 15 points better off in the table 🤣
Problem is most clubs feel the same. People only really ever notice the ones that go against them, not the ones that go in their favour.

VAR is awful for the matchgoing fan. You have no idea what's going on and I get little enough time in the pub after a midweek game as it is with all this extra stoppage time.

2 challenges a game per Manager seems like an ideal solution to me as long as they are only reviewed at breaks in play.

We have the techology so why not use it like in cricket with that restricted number of challanges. It is the VAR offical sitting in a studio determining what is and what isn't reviewed that infuriates me.

I would welcome this initiative especially given the standard of on field decisions that are common place in this league.
