The Wee Birdie
A wee birdie told me that the gaffer wanted to thank all on this messageboard for there honest opinions, and frank discussions. Tho he didnt agree with several topics he appreciated there right of voicing there opinion, and would hope the fans have seen the progression the club has made not taking the play offs in to consideration yet. We have the nucleus of a good team and with some added over the close season i think we can improve even more.First we have the play offs to navigate ,come on Southend.

We've come a long way these last two years. Hats off to the gaffer and the boys for turning things around in the way that you've done. Well done to all involved.

Agreed, when I see like of Bradford, Rotherham & Gillingham struggling to make process they wanted, we did it quickly as Mr Sturrock took over a club in July 2010 with only 4 players left, to be honest, I thought we would do a "Stockport" and gone straight into Non League & I was prepared for that ... So I was impressed how Mr Sturrock put a team together and now we have a team to be proud of :)

Let get through the Play Off and make us proud ever more by going up and beat Colchester Utd!

Whats been most pleasing, other than the recent improvment in form is the better style of football in the last 4 home games since Freddy joined.

4th place is a good achievement, if disappointing because we were in the top 3 for so long, but we would have taken it at the beginning of the season.

Lets hope the good form continues over the next 3 games, two wins and a draw are all we need (the draw not being the 3rd game!)

I'm satisfied with a 4th place finish, and although i'd be disappointed to not go up now i'd still be happy with the improvement on last season

Thanks for all the hard work clunie

Oh and sort that contract offer for Belford please :winking:

...and Eastwood.

I really do believe that in time Paul Sturrock will go down as one of our greatest managers - we were down to the bones when he came in and in a short space of time turned us round into a decent club - still can't work out how we manage to have such a large squad and surely we are top heavy with strikers but now is not the time for that debate. Hats off to Luggy.

Please tell the Gaffer that we are excited about the Play-Off games and he has the chance of giving Southend United supporters their biggest day out - ever!!!

Even if we fail to go up, the players and Luggy deserve an enormous amount of credit. Looking at the sides coming down from League 1 there's nothing to be especially scared of. If we're in League 2 next year, and we start the season with the squad we have now (minus a few of the hangers on), I'd be very optimistic of promotion.

Well done Sturrock on our second highest points total, equaling away records and breaking others. And well done the players for putting in their best every week, giving us a few highs and at times playing some really nice football.

Bring on the play-offs.

Great to have you posting on the board again Cluniemore. Always good to get insights from the Gaffer.

Cheers Sturrock, if someone told me before the season we would of had 83 points I would have bitten their hand off.

Last handful of games we have played some good football. Going into the playoffs with the form we have is such a positive. If we can overturn Crewe (who I personally think are the hardest team to play out of the teams in the playoffs - due to their recent form) I would heavily fancy our chances against either Cheltenham or Torquay!

Looking at the table, we were only 10 points behind Swindon in the end. Another season we could have even finished top. Looking back at the Aldershot game where we should have got 3 points before it got called off, that would have taken us 7 points behind them, plus you can look at some of the games we threw some points, i.e 2 late goals at Plymouth.

Overall though, a mainly positive season!

UTB!

I have nothing but praise for Luggy and the boys for getting us to this point considering the out-front and back-room problems of the last few years. I just hope that wherever we are next season, the nucleus of the club remains stable so that this success and stability can be built on. Thank you all for a (mostly) great season.

Up The Blues.

4th place didn't win me my bet for automatic promotion but hey, it's like some body on here said if somebody said to me at the beginning of the season that we would give me 83 points I would have snapped their hand off as well.

Well done Gaffer and the lads, this is one very proud fan.
NOW LETS FINISH THIS....:loyalsupporter:

Got chatting to a Sheffield Wednesday fan in the pub yesterday. He, like me, was glued to Soccer Saturday, biting his nails and knocking back a lot of Guinness. Obviously it turned out a lot better for him than it did for me. Anyway, he knew that we had Sturrock as manager and couldn't speak highly enough about him as a manager and as a person.

Hopefully we can go up at Wembley in three weekends time, but if we don't I'm confident that we'll go up automatically next season.

Hats off to Paul Sturrock and the team for a fantastic season! A few lows and quite a few highs, and the play offs still to come.. bring it on.

When PS arrived at the club, it was into a club in tatters, and no players. He had a big reputation of being a miracle worker and what he has achieved since then has been astounding. No matter what happens in the play offs, please stay at the club Paul!!!

Totally agree with you, what Luggy has done since he has been here is nothing short of a Footballing miracle. He was following our greatest ever manager disgracefully sacked by Martin, took over a mess created by Martin and has turned us into promotion candidates in the space of 2 years. Im still worried that all this success on the field is papering over the cracks off the field and there still maybe some dark times ahead but I think Paul Sturrock could well turn into one of our greatest managers of alltime. I already put him as our 4th best alltime manager(not to hard to work out the top 3 managers).

Agree with all the above comments and am delighted that cluniemore/ps has again posted his thoughts. As said elsewhere the first season under luggy was a minor miracle with all things considered, and this season to improve so much again on last seasons final position, gives me every hope that even if we dont go up this year, next year could be a very good season indeed.
