With Southend playing away tonight, I got the opportunity to watch Oli Coker play for Averley away to one of my old clubs Canvey Island.
It was a poor first half with very little opportunities for both sides until Averley took the lead just before half time. A good free kick delivery from Coker caused the Canvey defense all sorts of problems and the ball was bundled in from close range.
A much better second half with both teams playing some good football. Averley went close to a second when Coker's close range effort was well saved and from the resulting corner, again Coker put in an excellent delivery to find a team mate unmarked with a deep ball to the far post, which the keeper did well to save again.
Eventually Averley took a two goal lead with Aileru running onto a flicked header and slotting home well his second of the game.
A persistent Canvey pulled one back with two minutes remaining, with a brilliant half volley by Kouassi after a deep cross. Then deep into injury team, Canvey equalised with a superb long range strike by Hubble into the top corner to finish the game 2-2.
The result ensured both sides qualified for the play offs, and meet each other next Wednesday.
A good performance by Coker, showed some nice touches, put in plenty of running, contributing to a goal and gave a good account of himself.
