He makes it known that he would like to move on. May alert more clubs and we could get more, more less for him.

Fair point, never thought of it like that. But you do need more than one club to be interested to create that bidding war.

If a single club just comes in and says 'we want Lenny' RM just says no. Lenny handing in a transfer request means that RM can then name a price and if any clubs are interested they can try and arrange a fee. It could easily gather interest from other teams too

I see where you're coming from and I suppose it was a knee jerk from me of anger at someone not wanting to play for the greatest team in the world.

It's the stigma that comes with transfer requests I suppose. Normally it's seen as the player wants out and is trying to force a move and will throw their teddies out of the pram if they don't get it! (Rigsby just for clarity that's not me saying Leonard will do that)

Ron will extract the best fee obtainable and if he goes I think there are one or two targets lined up that would otherwise be beyond our means. Already Ron is at a couple of hundred k above what some would have ended up with and by the end you could near double that.

in the end whether the whole saga is doing as a favour or the opposite won't be known for a few weeks..

Oh dear Ricey, yes it was you who suggested he might down tools but other posters jumped on the rot in the reserves sentence.

I'm sure as a military man your are familiar with the phrase "if the cap fits". Well you are certainly wearing it.

For your information the club decided not to play Lenny, as clubs often do when they have a decision to make about a players future. So no he hasn't downed tools

The very fact that Championship clubs have offered more than £500,000 for a L1 player in his last year shows how professional and effective he has been for our team.

Some of you slagging him off and questioning his 'loyalty' might want to think about getting down to RH more twice a season. We would all benefit from more support, in fact we might just make the Championship ourselves.

Nice to hear you're a military man too. I'm a former Royal Anglian...... From my time in the military, I've never heard the phrase (if the cap fit's) I think you made that up......

6 years. 236 appearances. 23 goals. 3 POTY Awards. 1 promotion. Not sure what more people want before they don't call a player wanting to further his career a traitor. No current player deserves the chance more, and to go with every supporters best wishes and thanks for his service. Some people need to grow the **** up. To be honest I'm surprised it's taken this long for other clubs to take notice of him.
Where are people calling him a traitor? I understand everyone's view, but Sufc comes before any player so unless we were doing something totally. Therefore as the club don't want him to put in a transfer request I do not want him too either. I don't see anything positive in him doing that, he doesn't need to submit a transfer request to leave. TBH I have never seen so much positivity been given to a player who apparently was going to put in a transfer request- I don't get it. It's his choice , fair enough but I won he clapping him for doing it. If someone comes in a itch what Ron considers to be the right offer for gen fair enough , but if the offer doesn't come in then he will just have to get ov r it and hopefully play with an attitude of " I want a record 4 years of poty

Any chance of a picture?

P.S. Has Lenny or has he not put in a transfer request? I'm struggling to keep on the rails here ............

From what I am hearing, Lenny met Ron Martin to hand in a transfer request on Saturday. Ron Martin then talked him out of it. Ron probably sold his ideas, plans for the club and potential signings. Also no doubt offered him even more than the previous offer on the table.

It's my understanding that the bid from Sheffield United of £500k plus add ons was what Lenny and his agent were told the club would deem acceptable to seal his departure. When Ron Martin turned that down that triggered the transfer request.

I find that hard to believe - we've offered him a new contract, so I would be suprised if the chairman told them "Here's a new contract, however if we get a bid of £500K we'll sell you!"

Are you talking about Leonard, the adult who signed a contract and no longer wants to honour it, or yourself swearing on a message board? Just checking.

If you're upset about someone occasionally using a (starred out) adult word on a message board maybe you're not grown up enough to be on the internet, maybe get your folks to check those settings.

Jesus, just because you don't agree with what someone has said doesn't mean they're childish.

You're entirely right. The fact i don't agree doesn't mean you need to get some perspective. The fact you hold a silly opinion does.

So because I don't agree with you, I need to grow the **** up????? I think you do because everyone is entitled to an opinion even though it's not of your liking..

Were you trying to be ironic? :winking:

The fact is he is under contract until this time next year, so if Ron wants to be a **** he can make him stay. If we don't get the right money then keep him, then if he stays and down tools let him rot in the reserves for all I care. Haven't got time for players who do this!

You seem to be getting angry at Leonard for something that hasn't even happened and only exists in your head, and now it turns out Leonard didn't hand (or withdrew) in the request either!

Its not of Military specific origin. I thought it was a very old phrase linked to the Dunces hat, or fools cap

Player of his ability is worth £750k to 1.2 millions, it's not cheap to find a replacement that have his ability & more. If there one things I like Leonard to add to his games, is to score more goals, as his shot powers should get at least 10-15 goals, once he unleashed his shot on goal within 20-30 yard, there is nothing a keeper can do to stop it unless they have strong wrist!

sorry, even older. Defoe (Daniel not Jermaine) first used the phrase in 1705 in a satirical piece, but he paraphrased an earlier phrase 'if the cloak sitteth fit', i.e , 'if the cloak fits well'. This expression dates from the 16th century and was used in print by Richard Hooker in Of the Lawes of Ecclesiasticall Politie, 1593:

Which cloake sitteth no lesse fit on the backe of their cause, then of the Anabaptists.
