Sawyer has been given several chances, he's either not taken them or ended up injured. Unfortunately, I'd suggest we can't afford to carry him for too much longer so if he's going to be given a chance he needs to take it with both hands and jump at the chance.

Coming towards the arse-end of the season, there are plenty of contracts due to expire, if Sawyer wants to remain in professional football he'll have to prove he can cut it, and not live off the memories of 3 (or is it 4 now?) seasons ago.

I don't think that you rate young Mr Sawyer - I rate him very highly, but I do agree with you 100% about him needing to grab this opportunity, you are spot on

As much as I rate Sawyer, he just hasn't done what I expected him to do. The first time he was here he was a revelation but he just hasn't produced since.

Lets go 4-4-2 saturday with

GK - Bentley or a loan keeper
Clohessy
Phillips
Prosser
Hills
Sawyer
Timlin
Grant
Martin
Benyon
Harris

Subs

Barker
Baldwin
Ferdinand
Hall
Flood

Sawyer although his shooting is not that great he is an exciting player and always excites the fans everytime he plays. He was unlucky to get injured before as I think he would of cemented a first team place.

Hope he starts on saturday with kalala out, bilel not around and hall being investigated bring in Sawyer, Grant and Martin

I do agree he has not played a great many games for the club on a regular basis, but when played he has looked better than what is being produced from most of our current midfielders ! Time for ps to be brave and play him for several games, providing he dont get any injurys ! :Worthy:

I know he has been injured for part of the season but IMO it is time for him to get his chance - played in Braintree game and scored so hopefully fitness levels getting there.IMO he is a class act who can put his foot on the ball, create and go past players which I think has been sadly lacking over the past 10 games.Would like to see him involved ASAP.Question is who would you leave out to accomodate him ?

PAUL STOUROCK

PLAY LEE SAWYER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MID FIELD.THATS WHERE HES BEST. PLEASE PAUL DO IT. :Scared2::Scared2::Scared2:

Ah, but the second time around it would be hard for him to be a revelation, unless he was non-descript first time around. Which he wasn't.

I'm in the undecided camp for Sawyer #2 but we're sure as hell not going to know if he is not selected.

During his first spell here Sawyer was a breath of fresh air and fairly dominant in the middle. I just have seen nothing from him since to emulate this and find it a bit tedious that people keep calling for him to play as if he's the answer to all our problems when in reality he's not performed at anything like approaching the level he did in that first period (pre Chelsea) or he's simply had injury after injury.

Sawyer is quality at this level ! shame ps cant recognise this fact.:winking:

...or any other manager.

He simply hasnt done enough to convince Tilson, Sturrock, or any other manager at this level he actually is quality.

I think he flatters to deceive half the time, its been a long time since he actually produced anything.

Who would you play him in front of ? Grant?

Why not, Sawyer has not had a decent run in the side all season. Earlier when he did get 2 or 3 games on the trot he was starting to look the part again. I think he is the type of player that needs time on the field to pick up the pace of the game again. I think him and timlin plus martin with a holding midfielder could be quite creative. Lets face it we need to try and do something different to turn our season round. Big win tomrow and then who knows on Monday. I just think if he is fit he deserves the chance that everyone else has had, that includes Grant who has had maybe 3 or 4 good games all season.

Over three spells here, under two managers, Lee Sawyer has played 90 minutes five times, two of which were JPT fixtures. The last time he played 90 minutes at Roots Hall was the 3-3 draw with Colchester three and a half years ago. I'm not sure if he's not getting chances or if the bigger issue is that he's a walking substitute when he has played.

We only won one of those five games, by the way.

Not having a decent run in the side is not a reason to be played ahead of someone else.

Injuries aside, if he isnt delivering on the training pitch then he shouldnt be picked ahead of anyone.

Personally I think if Hall is dropped then he should be given a chance.

damn you and your facts. facts aren't welcome here!

Exactly playing Sawyer in the Middle (not as winger)was why he was more dominant ,he has had one ankle injury for a few weeks last season and 2 thigh strains this season the second one being because the first strain had not healed properly (rushed back)having said that has been fit and available contrary to belief for a lot more games than he hasn't
During this period he has been back, tell me how many starts he has had and how many minutes as sub ?
OTHER signings have come straight in unfit and started straight away ?
Most of those games the zone has said how well he had done ?
I Remember you never travelled to Port Vale where his last full 90 mins was played in an away win
and he was MOM from people who went there
When he came on against Bradford for 25 mins every one said how well he had done on here ?
Other players have injurys its part of the game we even have signed recently players who have been injured.
Sturrock has clipped his wings and wants him to CHANGE how he played here 3 years ago so he is not allowed to do the things and express himself the way he used to he has to play Sturrock style.
I personally am not saying Sawyer is the answer to a whole team problem but he has not had a chance ,even when fit, and not had a string of games to find his feet this time around unlike others who have come in and being give chance after after chance even when playing poorly
You always completely dismiss Sawyer in your comments where as you can find time or allow fault for other team players who i have seen using there phone in the club car park while driving out home.(just one of your comments i recall)
it suggests you do not like him or rate him as a player(which is fine) or want him to do well so you can say i told you so.....
Sorry for being tedious but i dont think you are being fair with the boy

I rate him with Grant. Once of twice last season they showed a good partnership. (Grant in CM, Sawyer in RM)

Can play a cut throat pass and the fact the he passes the ball is enough for me. A lot of fans have said that they're tired of Hoofball yet they put down one of our only passers because Sturrock said so. Well Sturrock's system isn't working now either...

If we were able to play football we might be able to play our way out of this rut, but now it's just the luck of where the ball bounces and nowhere near worth promotion.

I am a fan of Sawyer - worth stating at the beginning - tremendous away at Crewe a couple of years ago (or more?).

Would love to see him get another chance in the team ......... but there are other options and I agree with some of the comments above - he hasn't impressed recently and has a poor injury record lately.

I hope he will be on the bench and I hope that he gets a chance later in the game at Burton to show what he can do - but I would start with a midfield of Hall, Martin, Timlin and Grant.

:off topic: Slightly off topic but I feel that Timlin is not at the level he was earlier in the season and hope he picks up on Saturday .......... perhaps a slightly different team selection may help.
