I know he has been injured for part of the season but IMO it is time for him to get his chance - played in Braintree game and scored so hopefully fitness levels getting there.IMO he is a class act who can put his foot on the ball, create and go past players which I think has been sadly lacking over the past 10 games.Would like to see him involved ASAP.Question is who would you leave out to accomodate him ?

I wouldnt leave any of Hall/Martin/Timlin/Grant out for him if they were all fit and ok to play.

I think Sawyer should get his chance though if Hall is dropped through discipline.

As to Sawyer being able to create etc Sturrock has stated that whilst he is decent when running with the ball he doesnt actually do anything with it, doesnt score, doesnt create chances etc.

Im not sure Sawyer is the player a lot of people think he is, certainly most managers dont seem to rate him. However if we are to drop Hall then this is his chance to show he can actually produce the goods.

Well we are already 2 down with JP Kalalalalalaaaaaaa looking likely to have a long spell on the injury table. And Bilel going AWOL.

So its from: Timlin, Ferdinand, Grant, Martin, Hall & Sawyer.

Personally I would go:

Hall... Timlin... Grant... Martin

.............Sawyer

..............Dicko

Cricko likes this.

Just saying give him a chance. Things have been so flat since Christmas it is crying out for something different as we have become so predictable.I agree that Hall/Timlin should always start,Grant has hardly played and I remain unconvinced over Martin. Things can't get worse following last 2 no shows so why not something different ?

Disciplinary action doesnt like this.

If Hall and Dickinson are dropped then that changes things. Whether they will be is up in the air though, Sturrock refused to answer Chris Phillips when asked...

If that's the case then:

Sawyer... Timlin... Grant... Martin

...........Benyon/Harris

..............Sampson

Maybe, but can you honestly see the club going through with dropping them?

David Martin has already score more goals or us than Sawyer ever has and has played half as many games.

If Hall is dropped then thats Sawyers chance.

I certainly agree that we need to do something different, playing with Hall/Martin would also be different.

Sorry dont ever recall Sturrock stating that etc ? i remember he has said he has to learn to listen but then he has said that about the whole team lately and who are most managers ?
his attitude may have been questioned by some managers but not playing ability

Most managers ? Ill change that to ALL managers. No one has kept him on so couldnt have rated him.

I believe he said it at the fans forum. It was certainly reported on here. He specifically said he hasnt offered goals or any real threat and thats why he was trying to get him to adapt to a wide role.

As for ability, no manager has stuck with him, he had a bad attitude orginally but dont think thats been an issue for a while. Look at his playing record, he hasnt exactly set the world alight anywhere and with us is still riding on the reputation of his first spell with us.

edit :

Taken from the Fans Forum thread:

Re Sawyer PS answered his critics excellently I thought. "Does he have a goal threat?" "Does he make defence-splitting passes" "is he a good defensive player?" To all of which, the questioner was forced to concede, the answer is no. PS did say he is good at running with the ball but his final contribution is lacking. Said he is trying to mould him as a winger but most of what he tries to teach him goes in one ear and out the other.

Haven't seen him do any of this for about 3 years personally...for me it's a very big "IF" he still retains those attributes. Though I take your point, we need to shake things up a bit - and it can't do any harm.

It's been up in the air all season.

I totally agree it's time to give Sawyer a chance, regardless of what PS wil do with Dicko/Hall/Kane.

Played some garbage football lately, we know Sawyer has ability, but for some reason PS doesn't seem to like him.

Give the lad a chance please.

So many grey areas in between facts so just hope he gets the chance of a few starts and not cameos to show his worth

Sawyer has been given several chances, he's either not taken them or ended up injured. Unfortunately, I'd suggest we can't afford to carry him for too much longer so if he's going to be given a chance he needs to take it with both hands and jump at the chance.

Coming towards the arse-end of the season, there are plenty of contracts due to expire, if Sawyer wants to remain in professional football he'll have to prove he can cut it, and not live off the memories of 3 (or is it 4 now?) seasons ago.
