Lee Barnard

The same Billy Paynter who was never given a chance here, probably because of fans like you.....?

Because of fans like me? You don't know me so don't be so quick to cast
aspersions okay "matey"... I am one who has constantly defended Paynter here and also feel he was never really given a chance to succeed (for whatever reason) and that the so called fans who booed him when he played for Southend were nothing short of a total disgrace. I can honestly say, with my hand on my heart, that in almost 40 years of watching football, I have never booed a player from the team I have supported and from what I have seen over the past few seasons, not too many SUFC fans can truthfully actually say that.

Peter Taylor recommended Paynter to Tilly, Paynter signed and failed here - whatever way you dress it up, that is fact. My opinion is that Taylor was had a top class career for SUFC, Palace and Spurs, playing 4 times for England also. As a manager, what has he ever achieved? Sacked from virtually every post he's ever held and now he is at Stevenage in non league. His recommendation effectively brought Paynter to Southend and for reasons already stated this did not work out. On the strength of that, why should his judgement or recommendation of any player "cut any ice" for this club either now or in the future?

For your information also, I wish Paynter nothing but sucess in his future career and it is a credit to him that he has never come out and "slagged off" Southend, Tilly etc. in the press as he certainly could have done with much justifaction.

Hope that clears up any misunderstanding you might have had on this matter. I am not one of the herd and never will be.

Wasn't he on loan at Borient?

I'm sure I remember Jonny Stokes saying don't touch him with a barge pole!

I really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really think you should sign him. He's amazing, and I hope Tilly reads that he has my seal of approval.

That is obviously not true, he has a good track record in the lower leagues guiding Brighton & Gillingham to promotion, and Hull to successive promotions. That says to me he isn't a bad manager.

FFS even Ferguson & Mourinho have copped the Spanish archer in their time.

you and 3000 of your mates,5000 for a local derby against Looten yopu are having a laugh.Wait till the 2nd Feb and you will see a proper crowd.

Lee Barnard is a player so many people shout and scream about but I personally don't see what the hype is all about?? Personally if he is are last option then fair enough I will take him but would not be top of my list. Would rather have Morgan.

I didn't really see much if any of him but he seems to have done ok for Swindon so guess he can't be totally pony, but then again some players settle at clubs.

He hasnt done that well there though.

He has scored in 3 games out of the 23 he has played in and although he did get a brace and a hattrick he hasnt scored in the last 12.

i don't think barnard is that bad... i think he is kind of like shearer and newcastle, everyone has been banging on about barnard for ages now and it's been kind of inevitable that he would end up being bought, but i think deep down we know that he isn't really that good. he was crewes best player against us and he is a bit of a handful and with some good service and confidence i think he could bag a few goals at this level, but is he a player that would be CCC class? i'm not sure and i still think that is the key issue when looking at signing players

Same could be said about Paul Hayes though and he snubbed us to go back to Scunthorpe!

Are you saying we've maybe gone for Barnard as a substandard Hayes? :p

Taylor is at a non league side because his severance package from Crystal Palace was dependent on a Clause preventing him from managing a league club this season.

I don't think c**p managers get to manage England (albeit for 1 game)

hayes has been poor for scunny though and i've never really rated him, also like foran they see him more as a winger than a striker

Barnard didn't do much against us except moan at the ref because he was constantly beaten by Peter Clarke, but saying that Crewe were awful and he looked quite quick. Spurs haven't released him yet so he can't be that bad.

Do you think a vast proportion of their fans moan he's not been given a chance then as he hasn't been played in his true & proper position? :p

Taylor hasnt had any real success and the fact he managed England was out of circumstances other than choice.

He has done poorly at pretty much every club he has been at other than a decent spell at Gillingham and Hull where he had an open checkbook, he took winning teams from other managers and seemed to get a good reputation off of others work, when the team was one he built he has less success.

Palace is yet another example of his management skills, they were relegation fodder and now pushing for promotion with the same team...

no because he had a decent run in his "natural" position, but after not impressing he was used more as a targetman on the wing and has been effective, according to my scunny supporting friend anyway

You're about 5% away from a "whoooooooooosssh" there my friend :p

When was his last contract renewal? Maybe he hasn't been released because his contract is not up.

He's the exception that proves the rule!

He's repeatedly failed at Championship level, mainly because of his penchant for 3rd division players. He might be a decent coach, but he's a crap manager.
