Lee Barnard - Glad we didn't get him!

He was poo that game, but I'm glad his doing the business for us and proving a lot of people wrong. Long may it continue.

As i said on other threads around the time,Barney certainly was not poo that game,he pulled Clarke around and run him ragged and went close a couple of times.
I can remember walking out of Roots Hall that day saying how although that Crewe game looked like a thrashing,it could have so easily been a different story and my mate even said we were lucky to make it look so convincing on the day.

Barnard showed up our worst fraility at the back that day as our defence back-tracked into our box whilst typically losing their markers.
Clarkey certainly knew he'd been in a game.

Barnard was the villian that day,the bad guy that everyone wanted to boo simply because people knew he was a dangerous striker on loan from Spurs and because he's a local lad,but also 'cos he put himself about alot so therefore recieved some abuse from the Southend faithful that day.

But when it was announced he was coming to us i was over the moon and the Leeds game Barnard looked different in a Blue shirt instead of that red Crewe shirt, everybody thought he was a great player!!

I remember it differently, as I knew who he was actually commented on how he was supposed to be good but Clarke, whilst having a niggly game with him, dealt with him easily getting him booked in the process.

Id certainly not say he ran Clarke ragged.

really interesting reading these comments about what people thought of him before he came here, i agree that he didn't really get a look in when he played us but as far as i can remember they were really that awful so this may have had a bearing on his perfomance. no support etc etc.

when he signed for us a lot of people were unhappy and i didn't really get why. personally think he brings a lot to the team and we seem to play a lot better when he's in the team.

nice goal on sat too

I have to admit I'd seen him twice & thought he was sh!te. I think I said so on here. That said I'm pleased to be proved wrong, if he continues as he is now. Early days, but has shown enough to make me think he's better than what I'd seen before!
