We are a small club, maybe he is moving onto better things, nothing wrong with that.

Never know might even be a Phil Brown decision bringing in his own people (although Id expect the youth set up to be standalone as it would normally outlast managers).

I tend to agree, i think there is part of this that is Brown putting his own team together, at big clubs who have the wealth to pay up contracts, this all happens immediatly whan a manager is brought in. With the smaller clubs this has to be a slower process - waiting for contracts to wind down etc.

For all his faults Ron is not a trigger happy chairman so i see this, Dave Penny, new scout, new pitch, upgrade of Boots & laces as a way of backing Brown (& yes cheaper than paying wages & signing on fees)

I believe so yes. Shame for a few of my Manor lads who were picked up. All the parents said he was superb. Perhaps Dave Johnson will take over now.

Knowing the football club it will be more like Dave Jobson

Dave Penney used to work at an academy after leaving full time management - maybe he's combining his assistant work with this?

I spoke to Luke when I was writing my dissertation on the youth aspect of the club, and he was equally as impressive as Duncan both in how he spoke of the club, and how he envisaged the future of our development programmes. I thought Coughlan bringing him forward into his senior set-up when Luggy missed a game last season was hugely telling of how highly he was regarded here, and this'll be a devastating blow for the Centre of Excellence. We've a raft of good youngsters on their way through, and the last thing we'd need would be to destabilise their development.

Still, if you're not getting paid...

I actually laughed when I saw the title of this thread and didn't believe it!

Think our youth setup won't progress much until we move into the new stadium which I believe has better facilities for both the first team and the youth teams, but I may be wrong. With the better facilities we could also become a category 2 academy, meaning we can have an under 21s development team (like a reserve team which we don't have) and be able to get more money for players, be able to attract better players and spend more time coaching players too.

Not without ploughing more investment into the academy, which is unlikely in our current precarious state.

True, but it would at least give us the foothold in becoming a category 2 academy. We will be able to apply for grants which could pay for most of it, I believe one of the Col U fans (closet shrimpers really :winking:) said that the majority of the million pounds needed came from grants and the real cost was the initial cost of the facilities.

Under EPPP the more you spend the more you're entitled for funding, but we'd still need to pledge to spend far more money than we are now for us to qualify for that funding. Frequent checks are carried out to ensure that funding remains at that requisite level, and I believe they can block clubs from entering certain categories if they believe funding may drop in the near future, or there's uncertainty. I'd imagine we'd be a prime candidate for that.

At the moment we couldn't do that, but if/when the new stadium and facilities are finished we will hopefully be in a better financial state and be able to start looking towards that level. I think clubs are re-assessed every 2 years.

Penney is a journeyman manager as soon as a managerial appnt comes up he will be off.

Is he? Was at Doncaster for 5 years, then Darlington for 3 years. He was then sacked from Oldham and Bristol Rovers after less than a season at both and hasn't had a manager's job for over 2 years. Like Brown, I highly doubt there are many clubs wanting to hire them.

Erm, cant be bothered to wade through all messages, but my thought would be why would need Hobbs and Coughlan ?? With DP coming in, surely PB, DP and GC is more than ample on the couching side of things !!!

If DP had not been appointed, then yes can understand the problems ........., but lets stop jumping on everything shall we !

But surely LH looks after the youth set up, PB first team manager, DP his assitant and GC first team coach. They would have nothing to do with the running of the youth teams/academy etc. I doubt that happens at any club.

Coughlan is 1st team coach. Hobbs is youth.

Not had many of those appointments come up in the last 2 years though has he so doesnt sound likely he will be getting too many offers?

It's bad enough that Ron is stitching everyone up without those 3 joining in! :stunned:
