We're not allowed to re-develop RH anyway are we, that's been the case for a number of years.
i'm a bit inclined to agree with this. but i'm also a shareholder and meetings every 5-odd years don't cut it

Sorry but I have had enough of the constant bollocks spouted about the stadium over the last 15 years. Surely you can forgive one for being "negative" about the whole thing?

This British Land thing just raises more questions than answers.
Are they funding the whole retail park and FOUR sided stadium?
Who will and how will they be paid back?
What does this mean for the Roots Hall site?
How are Sainsbury going to be paid back their x millions and what is their involvement in the project?
Do Sainsbury own the RH land?
I may come across as negative, but I just want some bloody answers so I/We can feel more comfortable about the whole thing. I absolutely agree that this club needs to move to survive and hopefully one day grow. But with zero information available and constant deadlines unmet then my default mode is to suspect the worst. After 15 years of failure with regards to this project I don't think that is me being unreasonable or overly negative.
With all due respect Smiffy, it hasn't taken you 15 years to become negative about this. I can't actually recall a positive post from you on this subject. You've been rather negative about it for a fair number of years. I guess the question is were you ever positive about this, and if so, at what point did your opinion change?
Just to be clear, I can't actually blame you for being negative around whether or not this stadium will ever be built as I have become more and more frustrated over the years, and now just see it as a joke. Every new piece of information used to excite me, but now I'm too cynical to care. Until there is an announcement that all the funding is in place, and diggers move in to FF I will take all announcements with a healthy pinch of salt.
The difference is that I have changed my opinion over the years. It seems to me you have always been anti RM, and use the stadium as a stick to beat him with. (Which, at times I can't blame you for!)
Not at all.
I was very supportive of RM and his ambitions for the club from day 1. Hence why me and a few others set up TBV back in 2007 and always championed everything he had planned. But I am afraid over the last 5-6 years or so that has changed due to the constant financial troubles/failed deadlines/no stadium/lack of info etc. So I have not always had an anti-RM agenda, far from it. I guess I am just one of a growing number of fans that have become very disillusioned with it all and now have zero confidence in the man to deliver everything he said he would. Don't get me wrong I would love to see us in a 22,000 seater stadium and creeping back up the leagues. But I am just concerned that RM chasing this golden egg will actually put us in a far worse position than we currently are. This is all based on what hasn't happened so far and the quite disrespectful lack of info given to the fanbase over the years.
Things may well be moving forward and British Land being involved maybe due to the fact the cost of Steel is at an all time low. So the cost of building the whole project has reduced significantly i would of thought.
If the reason that people have heard of Southend United is that they have a new stadium with a cinema and retail park outside then Ron would love it.
I guess nobody has heard of a club that's been promoted 3 times, winning the league once, spent a year in the Championship, been to 3 JPT finals, made a League Cup quarter final via beating Man Utd and drawn with Chelsea in the FA Cup, all in the last 10 years.
Is there any clarification that British Land are backing the stadium plans, or is it just the Cineworld project ?
This snippet from the Echo article may explain more.....
Martin Dawn Plc is in advanced discussions with British Land plc to forward fund the first phase of development, including the new stadium. British Land Plc is the UK’s largest listed owner and manager of retail space and a market leader in the design and development of Shopping Parks.
sounds like we're currently looking at an Oxford-type set up. Not ideal maybe but not terrible.
i really hope there's public transport coz i don't have a car so need to walk from the station
i'm really torn on whether this is a significant development or not. i tend to think i'll get excited when i see photos involving Phil Brown and diggers. until then i'll remain a disinterested viewer from afar
Australians ?
