Echo News Latest chat with Kevin Maher.

Firstly, keep looking back to the take over and what COSU have done etc is not helpful, we are all aware and this is not dragged out when we win...!

I would have liked some of the questions to be around what he was thinking at say HT, against a side that concedes so many to have created no clear cut chance, why did he not change things at HT? Why did he not change things when they scored, we were if anything playing worse than in the 1st half? Why did he, when changes came, just made like for like? Why did he only give Kendall 5 mins...? So many questions, but once again we will not know as the focus was on what happened over 6 months ago or more....!

Agree Coker was not the right person in that role- you mention Daggers and Fylde but supporters of 3 up top somehow always forget Sittingbourne (even if we park Maidenhead). 3 up top is not the magic solution to all our problems some think it is in my opinion. And by the way I prefer it.
TBF its maybe more about the recruitment. Bonne, Hopper, Kendall, Walker, Waldron to start with. None of these will hit double figures in a season iw ouldnt have thought. Recruitment up top has been woeful so even when we create the chances we dont finish them. Look at Pepple and how many of his goals were self created. I watched his goals at the weekend for Chesterfield and both were inside the 6 yard box. Dont think he scored more than 1 or 2 like that for us. He has been a big loss

The reason the 3 up top didn't work against Sittingbourne, is because of Hopper. It looked like 3 complete strangers up front. Should have left Bonne in the side.

Sorry, should have added that it got even worse in that game, when we went back to 2 up and of course no formation is going to work 100% of the time, but rather us show some sort of attacking intent!

Couldn't give a stuff about formations. We need to stop employing rugby tactics (backwards and sideways) to football. We seemed to give it a good go last season when we was down to the bare bones of squad.

I don't mind loosing (well i do but that'd be another thread) if we have a good go at it and get caught on the counter or come up against a really decent team. What i can't stand is loosing to a team where we barely trouble the goalkeeper in that he could probably re-use his matchday top without even washing it!!

We seem to want to try and walk the ball into the net and are too afraid to have a pop from distance as we might loose the possession.

I think Kev is justified in giving some back. Supporters always want the right to "criticise" and have an "opinion" and then start crying when they think the manager is digging them out.

I'm all for Kev having a dig back, he is well within his right to. Problem is, he needs his players to then back that up with performances and wins otherwise he just looks silly.

Don't think I'd ever be able to move up to senior football. Not a chance I wouldn't be biting back reading some of the absolute guff on Twitter. No wonder Kev got rid of his

Only crying in frustration with his tactics, he can dig all he likes his choice.

someone on X has just made a very good point that once again Kev seems to be having a dig at the fans - I’m right and 6000 of you are wrong
Well, to be fair, he probably does know more about football than any of the 6000 individually (depending on whether other professionals were watching). I'm with CP - I thought it was a good interview... we're probably in a minority of two. We just need to be realistic about where the team is, remember that it nearly wasn't here at all and recognise how much needs putting right. We don't have a divine right to be in the playoffs or to win games or for our players to be better than those of other teams.

See this an interesting one. I think a lot of our fans do think, as we’re an ex league club and have bigger crowds, that we should be there or thereabouts every single season. This would’ve been the case even more so with COSU coming in, the promise of a new dawn etc. After only just falling shy two seasons in a row the general feeling was “yep we push on from here”. The fact we’ve stuttered and stumbled and been inconsistent this time round has been a huge source of frustration.

Rubbish….only 5995 are wrong…. The rest are just confused…

He is answering the questions put. We might not like the answer but then if the vast majority of us were anywhere near managing the club we would be in the Essex Senior League in no time…

He deserves a lot more respect than he is given… but we live in a social medial fuelled world where tolerance has long gone…

Looks like he is trying to get all the fans against him by saying some of them comments.! He’s been with The Rat to long.!
He is right that COSU have done some good things, maybe he didn’t like fosters either🤣

I do have an issue with this comment:

Maher: "That tells a story doesn't it but what you've got is people who are giving their all for this club"

Whilst I do not doubt for a minute there are plenty giving their all, I feel there are also a number who have dropped off immensely from last year, in terms of work ethic and positive attitude. It was the work ethic and attitude that saw us through, got us results and brought the fans and players together last season. Where is that this season?.... It's packed up and ****ed off is what it has done and we are where we are now partly because of that.

"Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard" is what is drummed into us at any level of sport. I don't think it is unfair to say this team (as a whole) is miles off it in terms of work ethic, compared to last season? You don't get that same vibe from the current crop, that never say die attitude that was so glorious to see last season. In turn, the fans are the same. It's all very meh.

Some people say "But he works hard" like its a special attribute to have. Not for me, work rate is the absolute minimum I want to see from any player wearing that blue shirt, who is lucky to be here and playing pro football in front of 7,000 fans every week. If this club wants to get back to the EFL, then we have no room for sentiment or passengers any longer. Someone in COSU needs to work their magic with "mutually agreed" contract terminations this Spring, or next season will be a continuation of this...

Make me wonder if the players playing like they wanted Maher sacked at Maidenhead

Agree for the most part, hard work is the minimum not a shining light. Interesting to see what players you think aren’t giving their all or have dropped off doing so?

Yeah I did wonder that as well. There seems to be something wrong with the players and the management, they don’t seem to be buying into the way he wants them to play. We brought a lot of these players because they were good players, playing with a freedom and attacking way of playing. Now they have gone to pot and are playing defensively scared to try that defense splitting pass.
