Echo News Latest chat with Kevin Maher.

We did- as per Glen Pennyfather. Coker was effectively on the right of a front three dropping back to support the midfield out of possession.

Look people on here say we play 433 when we never play a back four so it’s valid to say often we don’t know what we are looking at. Thing is Coker is not who I would have gone for in that position.
Really?????? dont think he left the middle of the park and even then he couldn't trap a bag of cement. im a huge fan of Ollie but Saturday maybe was his worst half of football in a southend shirt. We should have gone three up top as a proper three like we did at Daggers and Fylde. If and it a big if Coker was meant to be the third striker on the right then Maher has lost the plot even ,more than we thought. Since when has anyone looked at Coker and thought hed make a decent third option up top. We were playing a team who had only kept two clean sheets one of which was us. so thats now 2/3 and won 7 games now 8. It should have been a full on attack minded set up and it simply wasn't. ONE SHOT ON TARGET all game

I don't think I saw cooker out wide once?? Maybe I'm wrong there but it looked to me like he was in the middle, unless he wasn't doing his job, and hooper (hopper sorry 😂) was up top with walker (who was also awful) at one point he spent about 5 minutes trying to put his boot on. Again this shows the stubborness of Maher, I'd imagine tomorrow night will probably be the same line-up as Saturday 😴

He can call it what he wants, its normally a 1-10-0.

A lot of what he is saying is beyond me tbh, and not the reality I am seeing. how long before the board give him a 'vote of confidence' .....
Well that’s a new one but kind of proves my point…:-)

We are fixated on formation, the problem to me is less formation and more quality. Which is rather harder to fix. I like the three up top but we have used it in the last two games and never have we been unhappier. Notwithstanding I would have started Kendall not Coker on the right. Or Bonne.

You don't change a successful formula! lol

Not according to CP, Glenn P or Kev…as I say all this formation rubbish is just a distraction. Most can’t tell their 433 from a 343, or a 352 from a 532.

But what we can see is when crosses don’t beat the first man, are over hit etc. If we had better quality we could probably make any of the formations (even the imagined ones) work.

Agree Coker was not the right person in that role- you mention Daggers and Fylde but supporters of 3 up top somehow always forget Sittingbourne (even if we park Maidenhead). 3 up top is not the magic solution to all our problems some think it is in my opinion. And by the way I prefer it.

If we had a front 3 of Walker, Hopper, Coker, it can’t have been a very disciplined front 3 as it absolutely didn’t look like one. And why play Coker as one of the three and leave Kendall and Bonne on the bench?

Confirming we had 3 up front doesn’t resolve the question marks, it just creates more with what is seemingly some pretty bizarre team selection.

listen back to Kev’s pre-match interview- he definitely said Coker is behind the front 2.

He needs to keep on top of what he said previously 🤦🏻‍♂️
Well nonetheless CP, Glenn P and Kev all say it was 3 up top. Of course if we say they don’t know what they are talking about, and ignore Sittingbourne, we can continue to say 3 up top is the solution (at least for a while). I think it’s better but it’s not the magic bullet we hope it is as Sittingbourne demonstrated.
It’s a distraction from the real things that need fixing.

TBH i no longer care about what happened in the past, it is just the absurd comments over all from Kev about how we play, how he wont change things and how positive they all are.

I'm sorry but he is living in La La land.

As are many of us…(myself included no doubt)…

I haven't seen any abuse.. but there is plenty of anger at the moment within the fan base and comments like today from Kev aren't going to do much to calm that.

Encouraging from CP and I trust him on this as he was there, which is obviously completely different to seeing it written down.

Tomorrow’s game feels like potentially one of Kev’s biggest. If we roll over and are well beaten, it could become very toxic. Especially if he fannies around with tactics/personnel again.

Personally, I hate all this chopping and changing of tactics and team selection to ‘match up’ the opposition. Yes, there’s times when facing one of the better sides that we’ll need to try and tactically nullify them. But we should be good enough to play our own game against most teams in this league.

Kevs just made my mind up for tomorrow,I’m not going to sit and freeze my cods off watching Mayerball after fighting my way up the A127 from Thurrock, I’ll rest up after Maidenhead and regroup for Saturday, you never know he might of ****ed off by then.

To be fair I do think some of the stuff said has been OTT. Such as (heard at the trophy defeat) “just ****ing go Maher you ****ing useless ****”. But Kev’s been around long enough to know you’re only as good as your last result. He’s also not afraid to have a dig back. His players need to deliver. He knows that.
