Question Keep or sell?

Nothing like a complete overreaction is there, deary me.

It’s nice that nearly all of these threads have turned into a slag Kev Maher off thread. Surely we only need one of those…
When it has become increasingly obvious that he is the root of the problem it is hardly surprising that the subject crops up all over the place.

Why would any agent let a player hes managing come to Southend , to sit on the bench whilst Maherball is being dished up to 6 to 7000 supporters. His own players value would decrease if he couldnt get a game in this team, and seriusly i dont blame the players so much ,i think they playing how Maher has dictated to them , Moncur now has 2 goals at Ebbsfleet because he allowed the freedom to play, Maher wants a team off robots , Sorry he is one of the worst managers we have had he equals MM and Bond in my book. Slag me off all you like ,water off a ducks back to me , i have my opinion you have yours .
Dick Bate and Alvin Martin would like a word

Can't believe we're having this discussion. Maher and the other amigos are still playing catch up on a season which began with the spectre of RM still hanging over the place as it had affected the signing of anyone early enough to start the planned re-build.

We are still affected by that now. Yes, I thought there were a lot of mistakes Saturday, in line up and tactics, but these guys are in it for the long haul. Getting on their backs so vocally is counter productive.

They are trying to get people in, the Brentwood lad has been looked at for quite a period, they missed out on others. Finding a goal scorer is probably the hardest position to find....and we've lost two this year - one of whom isn't exactly setting the world alight at his new club, and the other who is also now apparently struggling at a step above.

Sometimes players click, sometimes they don't. FWIW, I'd be including Jack Wood in the starting line up and at least giving him a go - his energy alongside Bonne and Kendall would surely benefit them both.

Too early to be talking about who to sell/release in the summer, we've a thin enough squad as it is, so we need to use what we've got and get them working together. Maybe a team building session might help!

We wait so long they go elsewhere. How long are we really looking at players? seems to be a hugely drawn out process

Trouble is, we were looking at them but weren't in a position to offer. We've seen before how that works out.

If we are looking down the loan route, what happened to our contact with Sheffield United. We had 3 good players from there or is that something The Rat messed up?

Thats all very well for the summer window gone byut your example is the Brentwood lad and we have been talking about him since we played them ages ago.

Maybe the Brentwood lad doesn't want to join us/keeping options open whilst efl window is open. It's not as easy as saying let's sign X and it's done.

I'd also hope he's not a No1 target.

I’m of the opinion that a large part of Bridge’s poor season so far is because it’s easier for opponents to double-up on him, because we don’t have an #8 who can replicate Fonguck’s movement with reliability.

Now Moncur’s left, his replacement needs to be of a similar profile to Fonguck. That’s more important than signing a new left wing-back, imo.
I’m of a slightly differing opinion that the majority of the players we relied so heavily on last season might all be having a bad season due to a little thing called burn out. Could see it towards the end of last season and it becomes more and more clear as the months roll by this season.

Any of those who left us having great seasons elsewhere? Thought not!

No i agree however if we was interested to him in November we could have attempted to sign then. As far as it seems we havent even made a bid. Maybe an ITK could confirm this? I get what some of the Maher in people are saying but do any of you really believe we are even looking and pushing for signings? So many teams are making signings yet we bring in a GK who would look terrible in Sunday league football and the lack of game time he has had in previous clubs it is clear why.

Nobody is denying the challenges that Kev has had to endure, but that doesn't explain or excuse the complete lack of flexibility in footballing philosophy, approach and tactics from match to match.
Instead, we just continue to put square pegs in round holes, play undroppable favourites who contribute absolutely nothing and are woefully out of form, we can't score or defend set pieces, and the management can't take any criticism or responsibility for anything.

Or maybe he's just not as good as some people, including Brentwood, think?
I do think this is the problem. Fans seem so desperate for something different that they'll go for 'anything' different. If we are really saying that a lad playing at Brentwood's level is the player to save the day, we've got problems. Of course, a player from lower down 'can' step up, but how many players do we have to see from those levels, who struggle to adapt straight away, before we realise they're very unlikely to make a sudden impact. Waldron was only 1 step below and has struggled.

If this lad wasn't local and we hadn't played them, no one would say anything. As OBL says, he may, just may, not be good enough. Remember Issac Layne?

The majority keep saying we need players who are ready now, he is one for the future.
