Question Keep or sell?

Slight problem is that 13 of our 17 "permanents " are on contracts to June 2026

Not sure how many are saleable, possibly able to move some on for free to other interested parties
Am surprised by this take considering you’re a fan of big squads.

If we have 13 under contract there’s room for 11 new players - an entire new starting line-up - and to still maintain a small, tightknit squad. When was the last time we had that many new signings in a summer?

I’d let Bonne, Wood and Waldron go. They’re out of contract and aren’t in our plans.

Defensively I don’t understand what people have against Gubbins. He’s fine as depth and has a chance to be more. People seem to have a real problem with the concept of depth.

Crowther may have a future at RCB but it isn’t in the middle of the three. I wouldn’t stand in his way if he wanted to leave.

In midfield we need some younger legs but whilst everyone now seems to hate on Noor he offers the type of versatility and experience that you need in a squad and would make him an ideal depth piece.

Bridge is another who even if he is no longer a starter offers value from the bench with his experience, versatility and ball retention ability. Personally I’d try and get the best out of him. The loyalty that he (and others) showed doesn’t seem to be a two way street and the fanbase craves novelty over stability. Time after time we hear calls for players to be given a chance and why isn’t Maher (or whoever is in charge) isn’t picking them only for them to be deemed surplus to requirements or not good enough once they’ve played a few games. George Wind is the latest example of a player who improves out of the team. He’s done fine for a back-up when he’s come in but no more. A few months ago Gus was flavour of the month; now people want to ditch him for the shiny new toy that is Wind.

I’d sign a dozen players between now and the summer and still keep the vast majority of the existing squad around because we don’t just need a starting XI but a squad. If our backups are good enough to be midtable (like we currently are) we’ll be in a good spot next season.

Sorry I dont quite understand why you are surprised

I was simply stating a fact. I also said it could be a slight problem but that we could move people on
I didnt personally see it as any impairment to a larger squad and yes I do think 24 is a wise minimum to get out of this league on the balance of probabilities ( and dare I say -previously offered 7 key indicators why that might be so )

Don’t think Bridge offers anything now. Need to urgently replace him with someone who has pace and isn’t scared to take on their man. He isn’t the only one but just pointing this one out as you said he is versatile (FYI has he ever consistently played well in other positions? And ball retention I’m not sure he does that but when he does it almost stops play and allows other teams to get their shape back and makes it almost impossible for us to break down.

i will only comment on those i would dismiss , top off my list to go would be Maher ,the loanees will be sent back, now who would i keep ,
1 Taylor,2 Wind, 3 Ralph, 4 Coker,5 Morton, 6 GSM 7 Bonne, 8 Kendall, 9 KAF, 10 Walker.11 Collin
on the fence ( MAYBE ,MAYBE NOT KEEP)
1 Miley 2 Gubbins, 3 Husin
Gone , all those i havent named.

2+ seasons of being top/near the top of the division in assists versus half a season of dip in form.

Ball retention would be particularly valuable when we have a lead and are looking to see games out. Having a player who can come off the bench and helps you control a game would be the type of tactical option I’d like.

Brutal, but I do like where you are coming from.
Certainly some getting far too much game time based on last season.
I feel they need to step up or as you say we should get rid.

Too many of the “old guard” have been rewarded with longer deals. I get the sentiment and they will always be remembered for their service in the club’s darkest times. But it is now costing us massively. We are overloaded with players that are bang average and perhaps this was masked by that siege mentality, that is now long gone.

I’m struggling to name more than about 7 or 8 I would keep right now. But unfortunately we are likely going to be lumbered (due to contracts) with a fair few that shouldn’t be anywhere near the starting XI of a promotion chasing side.

Some departures by “mutual consent” would be most welcome this summer, to help clear the decks a bit. This would allow us to bring in the numbers (I’m thinking 12 minimum) and more importantly the quality we need, hopefully…

Some might see it as harsh after what they’ve been through and given the club. But it’s clear a number of these loyal players have now passed their peak and need to be thanked and moved on, if we are to progress forward. There is no longer room for sentiment I’m afraid. Football is a harsh and cutthroat business and we need to see a bit of that (regrettably) this summer from Kev and COSU.
Sure, but they deserved that reward. Imagine if we hadn't tied them all down. Imagine the uproar.

I've added contract lengths for context, and, worryingly to indicate how likely we are to be stuck with a load of wasters for next season unless someone blind chooses to sign them...

Collin -Keep (contract up in June 26)
Gus - Keep (contract up in June 26)
Wind -Keep (contract up in June 26)
Crowther- sell (contract up in June 26)
Taylor -Keep (contract up in June 26)

Golding- reserving judgement until seeing him against better opposition
Gubbins -sell (contract up in June 26)
Bridge -offer 1 year extension (contract up in June 25)
KAF - Keep (contract up in June 26)
Husin -sell (contract up in June 26)
Miley -sell (contract up in June 26)

On the assumption that the Management Team remain, then:

Release all whose contracts expire in June.

Make all others available for transfer though I can't imagine there are many takers.

Based on our league position, results and performances then collectively this is the poorest set of players in our long history and they need to take their share of the blame as well as the Management do.

We need a complete new squad or a complete new Management Team who may bring new life to the performances.

However, the optimist in me hopes that the current Management Team somehow stumble upon a winning formula as I have no wish to see such radical changes.

You wanna release Ralph? He has been one of our best players!

Captain of a sinking ship and is too used to losing. Happened at Dundee and happened with us.

I like him as a player and his injury issues seem to have improved but we need a clean sweep.

Under a different Manager and as a pure LB however there may be a different argument.
I'm surprised at that. He has the odd bad game but in general is a very good player. Around the club, they think he should be playing higher. The other thing is, most goals against us in open play down the wings, come from the other side.

I argue that only Ralph & Taylor have hit the heights they did last season.

I get the Dundee stuff too however.

Ralph is one I’d keep.

This, has Ralph ever played a major part in a successful team?

And to define success, I mean actually winning a league, cup or playoffs, something you get a medal for.

Actually have no contention around his playing ability, but he's not captain material IMO.

Sure he's a great guy and all, but we're far too nice on the pitch and I just don't feel that sense of command or control coming from the skipper.

An experienced general who has done it before wouldn't go amiss. Before anyone digs this out, experienced doesn't mean they have to be old or a crock.

Oh how quickly James Dunne, Abu Ogogo, Will Atkinson, Louis Walsh, Terrell Egbri, Josh Coulson, Rob Howard etc are forgotten.
Not at all however we are in our lowest league position EVER, therefore as a Team I stand by my comment.

For what it's worth Dunne, Atkinson and Howard would be starters in our current Team - the rest I would prefer to remain forgotten
