Question Keep or sell?

AlfaShrimper

Head Coach
Lots of comments on this squad being good enough or not for promotion from this league I was wondering what people would do if they was given the reign to keep or sell players this summer?
For me

Collin -Keep
Gus - Keep (unless a good money offer comes in
Wind -Keep
Crowther- sell
Taylor -Keep
Ralph keep
Golding- probably send back. Not sure we could keep anyway
Gubbins -sell
Bridge -Keep (I know not a fav currently but a blue through and through
KAF - Keep, not enough chances
Husin -sell
Miley -on the fence. Leaning towards selling
Morton- keep
Coker -Keep
Wood -sell
Bonne -sell
Waldron -sell
Kendal - keep
Walker -Keep

Big big summer ahead and hopefully we are ruthless with the clear out.
Interested on what everyone thinks?

Agree all except I'd certainly keep Noor. he is still a class above in my opinion. Also, just because Bridge is a true blue does not justify keeping him. I like him but he's inneffective.

Bridge is one that really pulls at the heart strings for me. We know there's a player in there similar too Noor. Maybe I should be more ruthless

Slight problem is that 13 of our 17 "permanents " are on contracts to June 2026

Not sure how many are saleable, possibly able to move some on for free to other interested parties

As much as I agree with your choices above you can’t sell if no one wants to buy. Not sure based on this season how many clubs will be looking to take on any of our players and this might a huge problem in the summer

Too many of the “old guard” have been rewarded with longer deals. I get the sentiment and they will always be remembered for their service in the club’s darkest times. But it is now costing us massively. We are overloaded with players that are bang average and perhaps this was masked by that siege mentality, that is now long gone.

I’m struggling to name more than about 7 or 8 I would keep right now. But unfortunately we are likely going to be lumbered (due to contracts) with a fair few that shouldn’t be anywhere near the starting XI of a promotion chasing side.

Some departures by “mutual consent” would be most welcome this summer, to help clear the decks a bit. This would allow us to bring in the numbers (I’m thinking 12 minimum) and more importantly the quality we need, hopefully…

Some might see it as harsh after what they’ve been through and given the club. But it’s clear a number of these loyal players have now passed their peak and need to be thanked and moved on, if we are to progress forward. There is no longer room for sentiment I’m afraid. Football is a harsh and cutthroat business and we need to see a bit of that (regrettably) this summer from Kev and COSU.

Keep Collin, Crowther, Wind, Taylor, KAF, Coker, Walker, Kendall, Waldron.
Consider enquiries for the rest.

I’d only really want to keep Coker, Taylor and Ralph. I’d be happy to keep Collin, Gus, bridge, Miley, Walker, Morton and Kendall as I think they could form part of a good team with more quality around them. Wind to keep as a project. The rest I’d be inclined to let go if we could.

Sad about Noor to be honest, but he’s not getting any stamp on any game right now.

I’m not sure ‘sell’ is the right word to use for this discussion, who in their right mind would pay money for any of our players? Certainly not the one’s most would like to see the back of anyway!

Worryingly, only a handful are out of contract in May so we’ll likely be stuck with most of them. Waldron, Bonne & Wood are the three who’ll almost certainly leave. At present I’d also definitely like to see the back of Crowther, Gubbins & Husin, I’m wavering on Bridge & Miley too, both have gone backwards performance wise this season. Jury’s out on KAF & Walker too, it’ll withhold judgement until the end of the season.

So keep: Collin, GSM (I’d be happy to sell if we got a reasonable offer, he’s the only player I can potentially see us ‘selling’), Wind, Taylor, Ralph, Morton, Coker, Kendall. Probably Bridge & Miley too in the hope they rediscover their previous form.

Move on: Crowther, Gubbins, Husin, Wood, Waldron, Bonne

Undecided: KAF & Walker

Keep; Collin, Ralph, Taylor, Gus, Wind, Morton and Coker. Try and sign Golding. Get rid of everyone else

For me

Collin -Keep
Gus - Not bothered either way, Wind looks a good replacement and can defend better.
Wind -Keep
Crowther- sell
Taylor -Keep
Ralph - Sell
Golding- try and re-sign, perm or loan
Gubbins -sell
Bridge -Keep (I know not a fav currently but a blue through and through
KAF - Keep, not enough chances
Husin -sell
Miley -Sell, needs an attacking outlet, that isn't there presently. Hence wins ball, drives forward, then passes back.
Morton- keep
Coker -Keep
Wood -sell
Bonne -sell
Waldron -sell
Kendal - keep
Walker -Keep

I'd be starting with ten and two, Gus and Miley that I'd make an option on, depending who was bought into my squad.

Collin -Keep
Gus - Keep (unless a good money offer comes in)
Wind -Keep
Crowther- Keep
Taylor -Keep
Ralph sell
Golding- Keep till the end of the season
Gubbins -Keep
Bridge -Sell
KAF - Keep
Husin -sell
Miley - Keep
Morton- Keep
Coker -Keep
Wood -Keep
Bonne -sell
Waldron -Keep
Kendal - Keep
Walker -Keep

Surely you’d keep Morton, he has probably been consistently our best midfielder when he plays and him and Coker work well together. Crowther is no where near good enough yet you’d keep him and let Ralph go. All about opinions I guess
Morton moves the ball round the midfield better than anyone we have currently - I agree. However he's not that great positionally and not that much use defensively. I'm not forcing him out of the door, but if move came in for him I'd let him go and use it as an opportunity to get a new face in.
Crowther is a right sided centre half and has never been played there - he's on poor form but I reckon much of that is Maher sticking a square peg in a round hole. If Crowther went elsewhere and was used correctly I suspect he'd be fine - so I'd keep him and if the next manager plays a back 4, we have a RCB. Ralph is a funny one - he's not the worst player we have by any means and can play a number of positions - but he's been with us throughout our decline and in many ways is the last man standing. I'd wish him well and send him on his way.
