Jcr

hehe... JCR as league 1's Thierry Henry, except with the Barca role being played by Leicester and Coventry. Seriously though, it's a bit of a concern that he claims not to have been able to speak to anyone at the club, especially remembering that other players (ok, Billy Paynter) have made similar complaints before. Communication is key to keeping a happy workforce, Ron..

Oh dear... this is not good.

JCR coming out and saying what the fans are worried about too - but should he really be saying it in the press.

Could spell the end of JCR too... he could do a good job for Leicester or Coventry.

Quick, panic, panic... the world's caving in. It's 21st June and we've only made the one signing, and just a proven goalscorer.

I quote from the article:

"I haven't been able to talk to anyone at the club. I want to stay but I am becoming very concerned at the lack of activity. I have heard the rumours but I leave all that side of things to my agent and the club. I want to stay at Southend though because I love the supporters."

Proven at Conference level no less!

I think JCR is a good little player and will be a real gem of a winger at this level.

I do think on this he is right to ask about his contract with less than 12 months to go but wrong to ask where the signings are....Its Mid-June for **** sakes mate....

Half the players, agents, managers etc are still roasting teenage Northern slags in Aya Napa and wont be looking for a big move to the hall until they get back or the NOTW exposes them whichever is the sooner.

Completely agree, this is ridiculous. Its one thing the drama queens of Shrimperzone panicking throughout the transfer window but its absolutely ridiculous for one of the players to be questioning lack of signings at this stage.

How much longer are people giong to be saying its still the summer etc. Plenty of other clubs have signed at least 3 or 4 players by now, and Tilly has admitted that he wants everyone in place before pre-season training which starts in 10 days time.

I am more than happy with the one signing we have made, but we still need another centre back, another one or two midfielders, and if Freddy is going another forward.

This is the time to be signing players, not the week before the season begins. Yes there are always going to be the odd one or two, such as Goater a couple of years ago, but if we do not appear to be signing anyone within the next 4 or 5 days, I for one am going to be really worried.

I understand that these things can take time, and I am sure that there are plenty of going's on behind the scenes, but if everything had worked out as Tilly had planned, we would already have signed MacDonald, Whelpdale, Hayes and the defender from Cambridge (Morrisson?) and the squad building would be almost complete.

However, three of those four have not joined, so I am getting nervous, and I am sure that JCR is only echoing the majority of fans views.

A well written post that attempts to see both sides, but I still do not believe that Southend United are any different to the other clubs at this stage of the pre-season. It's difficult to be sure because I don't have the information, like most people. However a quick look at the Sporting Life transfer wire which deals with Premiership clubs indicates the following:

Arsenal 1
Aston Villa 0
Birmingham 2
Blackburn 0
Bolton 5
Chelsea 3
Derby 0
Everton 1
Fulham 0
Liverpool 2
Manchester City 0
Manchester United 1
Middlesbrough 2
Newcastle 2
Portsmouth 3
Reading 1
Sunderland 1
Tottenham 2
West Ham 1
Wigan 4

This suggests that plenty of other clubs have NOT signed 3 or 4 players by now. It IS still early summer. Seems to me that every man and his agent are on holiday.

Id be interested on seeint what clubs have signed 3 or 4 as well.

Its very easy to see one or two transfers being made here and there and assume theres lots of signings being made, but theres 90 clubs out there and
Id be surprised if the majority have signed more than 1 or 2.

Indeed this is the time to be signing players, but who knows whats going on in the background.

If in 10 days time when pre-season starts there are no new signings thats the time to complain not now. Why moan about something that hasnt happened yet!?

I remember JCR celebrating like a mad man when we secured promotion from league one in front of our fans and it always seemed that he has enjoyed his time at the Hall , although put yourself in his shoes , he maybe an ambitious lad who loved every minute of playing in the CCC , so maybe he wants us to have the best chance of finishing in the top 3 next season and feels that without us strengthen in certain places then we will struggle.

Now for me that doesn't make him wrong as With Freddy almost certainly gone , our squad without some very good signings will find it hard to gain promotion.

I personally think he is a classy player but if he ever dreams of being a tip top Championship player he needs to learn to play that killer ball a bit more.

True that it is mid June but did we not suffer last season from making too many signings just before or after the season had started, giving those players no time to settle, no time to gel with the players or have a proper pre-season with us. Why is it taking Hooper nearly a month to decide over a contract and is Tommy Black signing or not? Gillingham signed 4 players yesterday, it cant be that difficult.
