Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation January transfer window 2023

Transfer news
Why are we speculating on players leaving ,Gosh if i was a player in his team ,playing as they are i wouldnt want to leave ,seriously we keep this form going not only are we a chance at promotion albeit we need a couple of teams to get nervous ,but also a chance to go Wembley via playoffs or the F,A. VASE is it called,.They living on the Essex Riviera, If i was one of those players clubs were looking at ,,personally i would tell them to bugger off ,but then again im Southend through and through .

I would think that any player would jump at chance to play in the football league and say goodbye to this terrible national league

I may be a lone voice here but I don't think the National League is a terrible league. I agree that League Two is better but I don't think the difference is that great. It will be interesting to see how Northampton (3rd in L2) get on at Chesterfield (3rd in the NL) on Saturday in the Cup. Teams like Dorking, Wealdstone, Eastleigh are minnows within the NL but there are 13 former EFL teams in the league whilst teams like Sutton, Salford and Harrogate are now in L2 (deservedly so). The NL is not a terrible league.

The NL is a very entertaining league and several clubs could hold their own in L2.

The big unspoken thing is the lack of financial fair play in this league compared to the efl, clubs are chucking money at it in this league and it is unsustainable.

It’s a very uneven league.

At the bottom you’ve got part-time teams then there’s a bottle neck at the top which means the disparity between the top and the bottom is a lot wider than other leagues.

I agree. You have to feel for teams like Maidstone. They battled ever so well against us but the reality is, they were well beaten.

Imagine the gulf in class compared to the big spenders in this league and a team like Maidstone. The quality difference is ridiculous. As you alluded to, you get differences in all leagues, Sheffield Wednesday to Morecambe for example. But the gulf between the part time clubs and clubs at the top in this league comparatively to other leagues is huge.

It astounds me that teams like Maidenhead do as well as they do. They massively punch above their weight and have my utmost respect for it.

I know for every Wrexham, there is a Sutton, Harrogate and Barrow. But overall, the teams who have the greater budgets will go up. Luton, Orient, Bristol Rovers, Stockport in recent years suggest that. It's no coincidence that Notts County, Wrexham, Chesterfield and even Solihull are all up in the top 5.

You just have to hope your one of those lucky clubs where your team has gelled on a limited budget and everything clicks into place. Hopefully that's us this year.

True enough. Doesn't make the National League terrible though. In fact it makes it more interesting in some ways (only some ways though). The most interesting Premiership season in recent years was when Leicester won it, beating off the mega spending handful of clubs that dominate it every season. Bridging that gulf was a triumph. At a far smaller scale Sutton United have had a similar achievement.

Seems to be the case that 2nd half of the season sees all sorts of weird results coming in. I dont think County and Wrexham will have it all their own way, lots of ups and downs to come, the Dagenhams and Eastleighs will take points off anyone having a bad hair day. Its actually a very interesting league.
Three up and three down would make it much more interesting.

We proved that last season to be fair. First half of the season, nailed on for relegation. Second half the season, play off hopefuls.

Torquay were at the summit at Christmas a few years back by some distance and absolutely crumbled second half of the season. It's really hard to keep that pace going.

The reality is, non-league players aren't going to keep up that consistency for an entire season. That's why the richest teams go out and freshen it up in January to March, like Stockport did when they got Madden in a few years back and Wrexham with Palmer.

Lots of twists and turns to come that's for sure.

Indeed, could we see Parkinson, who seems to have a weird obsession with us, come back soon with a big cash offer for another one of our finest? Even if someone's on a 2 year contract it would be hard for us to turn down.

He's still bitter since the days we kept beating he's Col U team. I remember he said we were lucky after spanking them 3-0 at Layer Road.

If Wrexham fail to get promoted this season Parkinson be fired and he knows it.
That is very true. Phil Parkinson has spent a lot of money and will know, better than anyone, that he must now deliver promotion in 2023. For what it is worth, Wrexham did not look like world beaters at Roots Hall this season.

It is up to the players to take points off notts county .That may just be there drop off point .Rember we beat the mighty Wrexham .Yes i know we only got a point but we scored a good goal against them only for a ref and a lino who saw something that never happened .And we got cheated out of 2 more points . What we did to them we can do to notts on our day .
