I totally get that being under an embargo at the moment isn't a huge problem, it was more of a problem in the summer when there was clearly a "spell" when no-one came in and that then meant that we missed out of a player or two. The lad that went to Daggers was clearly the biggest "miss" but I'm not going to sit here and say how well he's done at Daggers as I have zero idea.

And I totally agree its great to see such a good system in place and it makes total sense but we all know common sense and football doesn't come hand in hand.

Unfortunately whilst RM and his continued poor practices are in place, I find it hard to "support" the club. I get people can't understand that or maybe question why but its just the way I feel. Don't get me wrong, I want the football club to be successful but what I'd love more is the club to be well managed throughout the entire set-up and then do well. October should have been a positive month off the pitch with the training pitches being nearly in play but its all gone quiet on that front and despite the fan base being told the embargo would be sorted "within weeks" that was clearly another lie.

Erm, I don’t think we missed Omar Mussa that much, Dagger is hopeless at the back, with him in the team, he probably get left out of our team & even Benton is way ahead of him. The work on new training ground still going on, I see it as I checked them out after work.

Embargo’s happen to lots of club this season anyway, not just us. Getting Lopata was far more important for a fee’s than Taxman, I am sure he will get it sorted out by 9th of November.

From an income builder for Southend which would go a long way to paying off the taxman, the match against Notts County will be huge ,TV money plus fill the stadium ,We win tonight at Barnet and its becomes a reality, its more than possible to fill that stadium, im sure Notts County will bring a lot off supporters for it too..

So the sheep comment was because other people are still supporting the club?

Remember to thank the sheep for their contributions to keep SUFC going when you want to support the club again.

I understand your overall viewpoint - but the divisive sheep comment was just so unnecessary.

I remember one of my first if not the first match i saw at Roots Hall ,Southend versus Millwall. they were sitting top of the league (div3 south ) at that time . Had a young Alex Stepney in goal for them , The ground was packed ,played under lights off a night .Millwall won that match 3-1, and i was truly hooked Southend United were as always will be my team.

I might be wrong, but I believe all Clubs get a set “TV” fee from the overall National League agreement with BT Sport, as opposed to being paid per match they select.

So, it doesn’t matter if we are on the TV once, or 10 times, we receive the same figure.

Thanks BW2 I was unaware of that, but filling the stadium can give the club a financial boost i would think ,not just on gate money but also through sales etc .

Oh really? So what's the advantage of being picked for TV coverage? It's surely a disadvantage then, as some home and away fans will watch from home instead.

There’s no advantage to being picked for TV coverage. The advantage of the TV deal is in sharing the overall broadcast deal.

'Unfortunately whilst RM and his continued poor practices are in place, I find it hard to "support" the club.'
Is Ron willfully incompetent, or, is it a case that his personal wealth does not match his ambitions?
Are we under embargo because RM has the money and will not part with with it, or, the ready cash is not immediately available and he needs time to access the largish sums in question?

What surprises me, is what we have in place with our football department, isn’t in place at Clubs up and down the country. It’s not exactly ground breaking stuff, and isn’t reinventing the wheel.

The football department will also have a list of potential replacements for anyone of our players, as well as management staff. So if King Kev is poached next week, we already have a list of potential replacements. Surely, that’s good practice. I know Brighton have that in place for example, but they are the exception, and not the rule surprisingly.

I won’t defend the indefensible. I partly agree with what you are saying. What I will say, is being in an embargo is only a problem if/when we need to bring players in. As it stands, we don’t need too. In the EFL, for example, as you mentioned this wouldn’t be an issue as we couldn’t do any business anyways. So it’s almost like being in an embargo in some parts.

However, we have a strong, settled squad, with competition for places. We don’t need to bring anyone in, so in that sense, the embargo doesn’t really matter. Obviously it’s not ideal, but we aren’t the only club in this league, or the football league, to be under an embargo at present.

I always find that having a dig at supporters at the end of a post a really classy way to sign off a fairly decent post.

We had the 'shadow squad' with possible replacement of players way back in Tilly and Brush days.

Be interested to know how many can actually get in now and what the capacity cap is from the local Fire, Health & Safety authority. Not sure we'll ever see a 5-figure crowd at RH again, even if the interest was there.

Well if the other half of the North and the North West corner are now "out of action" then I'd expect capacity is now under 10,000.

I'm not going to get into a tit for tat back and forth over one comment I made. If people want to support the club financially, either by buying season tickets, shirts, or even sponsoring the club in a certain way, that is their call and everyone can do what they want with my money.

My biggest problem is with those that emphasis/sympathis/make excuses for RM. This has been going on for a decade, if not longer now. Now and again you can kind of forgive but this continued BS for a "successful" business owner isn't on. We all know why he's hanging on but his pot of gold is still a fair way away at the rate he is going as he simply doesn't have the cash flow available to him to pay off the taxman consistantlty, let alone fund a HUGE project like this.

It's not tit for tat. You called the fanbase sheep. I called it out as unnecessary. Your view is shared by a significant number of people so there's no need to be divisive about it. We all know it is a split issue. We all know constant embargoes isn't good enough and we may need another striker again soon so needs lifting.

Last night was great though, so you may be missing out whilst the rest enjoy SUFC being decent for the first time in years.

Its plain to see that the fanbase love their football and there club, they i mean everyone of them know the issues and whose lap that lays in, but most and im talking probably 99% dot want to see there club suffer because of one man They are supporters off the club not RM ,so they turn up pay there entrance fee and are finally after years of rubbish being rewarded by a group of players showing pride in the shirt and playing as a united team ,the management bar one are also doing an excellent job under trying circumstances . The fans are not sheep they are just ordinary people love there club and football .Others that wont go because of there own reasons concerning RM to my eyes are just cutting of their nose to spite there face .

In 100 years of trying Millwall have never won a match at Southend 3-1. Maybe Southend won 3-1, as they did in 55/56 which is more likely to have got you hooked. However it was us riding high then, not them. Roots Hall had been opened a month earlier and Alex Stepney would have been 13.

If Stepney was playing you're probably thinking of 1965, 2-0 to Millwall long after Div 3 south was disbanded.

i was definitely a kid , it was played under lights at Roots Hall , Harry Threadgold was our GK , Sam McCrory , Roy Hollis , Kevin Barron played . 1965 i wasnt a kid i was 18 going on 19.

Perhaps this will help. That dates it either 55/56 or 56/57. The 55/56 match was as I described and the 56/57 was a dead rubber season finale which we won 1-0. Baron scored. On the day of that game Ipswich won the division with a win at Southampton which knocked Colchester off of the top. Although I have a feeling those two games may have pre-dated our floodlights.
The 57/58 match in which all three also played was Christmas Day.

I rather think that in your recollections you are combining one of those two games with the 1965 match in which Millwall were top and Stepney played. No sign of any 3-1s though.
