I’ve been pleased to read Mick correcting you.i was definitely a kid , it was played under lights at Roots Hall , Harry Threadgold was our GK , Sam McCrory , Roy Hollis , Kevin Barron played . 1965 i wasnt a kid i was 18 going on 19.
And that’s the way it should be. Every club will lose its best players to a bigger fish at some point.Absolutely
Might not be their choice if we're being offered cashAnd for what it’s worth I don’t see us losing players in Jan - i think most of them will want to see the season through.
Thanks Mick the memory isnt as good these days im afraidPerhaps this will help. That dates it either 55/56 or 56/57. The 55/56 match was as I described and the 56/57 was a dead rubber season finale which we won 1-0. Baron scored. On the day of that game Ipswich won the division with a win at Southampton which knocked Colchester off of the top. Although I have a feeling those two games may have pre-dated our floodlights.
The 57/58 match in which all three also played was Christmas Day.
I rather think that in your recollections you are combining one of those two games with the 1965 match in which Millwall were top and Stepney played. No sign of any 3-1s though.
They can with us!I would think that any player would jump at chance to play in the football league and say goodbye to this terrible national league
That depends; would someone really prefer to play for a team similar to Southend in our last two seasons in the FL as opposed to either any of Wrexham, Notts County, Chesterfield or us in the NL this season?I would think that any player would jump at chance to play in the football league and say goodbye to this terrible national league
Wonder if Sam Dalby is wondering if he made the right move. Obviously yes financially but the atmosphere at the hall at the moment is electric and playing good football. Is he getting a game there ?? Would he get a game here? I think I prefer Wreh. Hes as strong and quicker feet. That depends; would someone really prefer to play for a team similar to Southend in our last two seasons in the FL as opposed to either any of Wrexham, Notts County, Chesterfield or us in the NL this season?

Not "correcting" but helping.I’ve been pleased to read Mick correcting you.
For the record:Kevin Baron’s last game for us—he got injured, then retired was v QPR 4-0 at the Hall on September 20th 1958—he scored the 2nd goal—his only goal in his 6 early-season appearances.
True but they have to decide in January can’t imagine many would turn down a move then especially if wages ( paid on time ) will be betterThey can with us!
@Streaky made a good point the other week…. Peterborough are exactly the sort of side that would lump £500k at a player like Lopata and then flog him on, 2 years later, for a couple of million to a top champ team.I think Jan will come too soon for some of the players that are being watched, which is good for us.
I know Lopata has had numerous scouts watching him this season (Portsmouth at least twice, Northampton, Peterborough) to name a few but also there are a few others that have caught the eye but hopefully it will be next summer rather then this January that any interest is taken further
If Powell score at least 10 more league goals, suddenly Coventry come for him, it’s would be very difficult to stand in his way, especially it’s his home.True but they have to decide in January can’t imagine many would turn down a move then especially if wages ( paid on time ) will be better
what ive read about Coventry and there troubles ,i doubt very much they will come in for him.If Powell score at least 10 more league goals, suddenly Coventry come for him, it’s would be very difficult to stand in his way, especially it’s his home.
