Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation January transfer window 2023

Transfer news
He can't replace Lapota .... none of them can. His leadership and guidance at the back has given us concrete protection and has enhanced the likes of Hobson and Ndi. His influence cannot be underestimated.....
Absolutely. Lopata is an absolute stand out footballer. Best centre half at this level by a long way. A lot of people were slagging off Hobson before Lopata arrived as he gives Hobbo a platform to play his game from.

They aren’t the only ones.

All three of our centre halves have had league clubs come and watch them so far this season, and Hobson had admirers last season too. Other players have had scouts watch them too.

Part of the reason that our three amigos, Stan & JS are watching countless games of football at every opportunity, is to keep that “whiteboard” full.

We have names for every single position, some we will look to bring in even if players don’t depart, some will be very high calibre players to bring in on loan that we couldn’t bring in permanently, and some that will be “replacements” for departures. Our footballing department is highly professional, and incredibly impressive. It’s something this Club has never seen before.

I see that Stan and JS were at Cheshunt yesterday to watch the match with Havant & Waterlooville...

If we poisoned it, it would probably be through our pursuit of Łopata. Don’t suppose parent clubs would take kindly to their loanees being so obviously unsettled and forcing through a move.
We had others.. their heads wernt turned by the prospect of playing for the mighty shrimpers.. but yea

With Hobson's contract up at the end of the season if a decent sum is offered I suspect it would be accepted unless he is willing to commit to a new deal. Should he leave having Lomas around would ease the pain somewhat.

Unless I am mistaken he could go at the end of the season for nothing so there seems little incentive to sell him six months early unless some money was to come our way.

How depressing that all the posts seem to accept players moving on. It takes a special set of management to sell players, get acceptable replacements and get promotion. I would have thought the players are happy being in a winning team with an acceptable chance of promotion. Unless there is an offer of exceptional money from a much larger League 1 or above team another contract extension would be an attractive proposition. Surely Ron wouldn't be that short-sighted, would he?

It's quite simple. We have to go for promotion and gain it this season if we are to have a chance of holding on to several of our players.

Same as Eastwood would have been gone if we had not got promoted to the championship.

I mentioned him a couple of times in the summer but could be Muhammadu Faal, big tall centre forward (6ft 5). Seems to have scored a few goals already this season. He scored 35 in the league below (Isthmian Prem) for Enfield Town last season. Seen him play a couple times and is quite mobile too. I guess Marcus Dackers is a good comparison.

Seem to recall Maher saying we’d be looking for a replacement for Dackers if we couldn’t extend the loan so this would make a lot of sense.

Has averaged 17 games a season throughout his career.....I'm sure he's a top bloke. And he is good. However he is a waste of valuable resources as he's always injured.

If the Three Amigos deem him worthy of a new contract, I bow to their superior knowledge. He’s been unlucky with injuries - the latest being a tough one. Being stepped on the little toe could happen to anyone, and with modern boots, there is no protection there. His call up last season for England C last season shows how he is perceived in the game.

Now that we are in the National League (thanks to Ron) we are low down in the pyramid and even more vulnerable to our better players being poached. We lost Dalby in the summer and he was average at best, thankfully we have five strikers better than him now in my opinion. It will be an ongoing challenge trying to replace players who depart that are of a similar calibre though. At least we have players that would command a transfer fee, however I doubt we would receive much if we lost players to League Two clubs. A further problem is our precarious financial position which puts us in a poor negotiating position. I was watching the Wrexham documentary series recently, it mentioned on there the average National League salary is £39,000 (I assume most other clubs actually pay their salaries when they are due as well!). You can’t blame people wanting to further their careers by playing at a higher level and earning more money.

Its great to hear that we are so well run "off the pitch" in the footballing area but its pretty pointless when we are being so badly let down by an incompetent chairman steering the ship. In a way, its actually a total waste having the likes of SVC and JS being involved. Being in the NL allows us to bring in players "whenever" and its important we make the most of it. Being under an embargo in OCTOBER isn't the end of the world if you are in the FL as very limited on making personal changes but that isn't the case now.

Its gone very quiet off the pitch and as every week passes, it sadly becomes more "accepted" by the sheep (fanbase) that the embargo is still in play.

Getting the contracts extended is very important, Ron paying all the bills is vital and MUST become reality pdq alongside a framework to ensure it never happens again.
However, all our players are in the shop window and if, like Sam Dalby they are offered twice the salary then the reality is they will be off. Why wouldn't they?
Some of our players will be enticed to stay if offered 2 year extensions and clauses on games played, points, play offs, pro#######, etc.
Lots of work for TL, SVC and team.

I would be amazed if Lopata goes anywhere anytime soon. He has only just signed a two year deal with the option of a third year so unless we got offered a massive fee for him then keep him at all costs. We saw last season what a lose he was when Sheffield Utd recalled him and before he arrived this season. For me he’s literally the difference between mid table and promotion, he’s really that important to us.

He’s still only young so plenty of time to play at a much higher level and he genuinely loves the club. Plus Sheffield Utd demanded a high sell on fee in the deal so unless it’s a very very high fee then surely promotion is worth a lot more to the club.
