James Walker Today

shaneyshrimper

First XI
Todays performance by James was terrible. He missed some damn good chances, look light and easy to knock over. Unsure of his talent and quite annoyed that this guy stayed on for 90 minutes when he should have come off and be replaced by Revell or McDonald.

Who must be as frustrated as the rest of us at watching a performance as bad as that. Barnard and Revell should be the preferred partnership.

Sorry James your just not what we can live with right now.We need goals and forwards that will battle and get stuck in (Barnard and Revell).

Good to see that a scrape goat has been found to explain the reason why we only drew. Good job we didn't lose or else there would be open mutiny.

I'm going to come out and say that I'm not totally convinced by Walker. The thought has been building up inside of me and again today he didn't really do all that much to make me change my iffy opinion on whether a) he's better than League 1 and b) we should actually spend all that money on him. He is still (and I seem to say this every game) not aware of what's around him. Time after time today Barnard made a move and Walker was head down, me me me. He was completely oblivious to the offside trap again and also time after time the ball just bounces off him. And just how did he fluff that golden opportunity at the end? What I'd expect from Black, not anybody else in the attacking third.

The fact he's only 20 and yet to have a settled period anywhere means I'll reserve total judgement for longer but I'm really not seeing why the management seem to think they've found a new golden boy.

Personally I'd bring Revell (who looks far sharper since his surgery) back for Carlisle at the expense of Walker and see if him and Barney can strike a partnership. If only for the fact he should help the ball retention in the final third, because at the moment the ball seems to be coming back a little too quickly when the opposition have their tails up.

I am not blaming him for the loss as we didnt play well as a team but I thought that he and Black stood put as two weak links in what was quite a disjointed performance

With the greatest respect, but you assured us all that Barnard was utter cack.

Most also fail to notice that Walker almost won the game with the chip shot that hit the post.

Walker is ok, but I don't think you can have him, Black and Gower in the same team at the same time. When any of them play, they are fantastic. They don't have bad games, they simply stink. Today, sadly, Walker stank. A shame because he was more than useful last week at Crewe.

I'd disagree that he was poor. He does hold onto the ball too long on occasions, but upto now his touch has been very good. He hit the bar with a lovely chip and created another couple of chances, he's not the finished article for sure, but he has something and with with T & B's tutelage he'll be a good player in time. Unfortunately i cannot defend the touch in the last minute.

We don't seem to have done too badly on 12 match run undefeated.

Well in all honesty he was when I previously saw him. I think everyone is allowed a misjudgement from time to time.

It wasn't just him that didn't perform though today and thats why we didn't win. Black and Macca also had poor games in the midfield and this, combined with little end product from Walker, meant we had to be happy with a point!

When he first joined, i thought it was a case of Walker > Kanu but now its the other way around. Will be interesting to see how either Revell or Kanu link up with Barnard!

If he puts away that half chance everyone is on here calling him a hero.

Is there a more fickle set of supporters than Southend?

Indeed which is why I think that we should reserve judgement on Walker. After all who can forget wiggy's Bailey can't pass water comment.:D

In the 2nd half you could see Walker was knackered

i think he needs a rest and to bring revell up front with barnard

Walker had a poor game today but he's only young and still relatively inexperienced - Tilly & Brush reckon his got lots of potential so we just need to give him time.

FWIW I believe Walker will be a much better player next season once hes had the time to settle in.

A confidence player like Walker needs our support when he's not playing so well, otherwise before we know it he will be out on loan to Hereford.

IMO it wasn't a good team performance for whatever reason but making scapegoats out of new signings is counter-productive.

Indeed and that's why I said I'll reserve total judgement on him for longer. All I'm saying is that I'm not totally convinced by him yet is all.

Walker had a bad game today but so did a few players (McCormack was anonymous, Black was rubbish again, Bailey quiet). He's put in some very good performances lately and I don't think this is the time of the season to be experimenting. Revell doesn't look very good from what I've seen and I think Walker and Barnard is our best partnership. If he'd scored that chip I'm sure people wouldn't be moaning.

Walker did ok , I just thought he got tired and had a very poor last 20 mins. I was surprised when he substituted Black for Revell , I would have done Revell for Walker and Grant for Black. Against a side content to just defend and hoof it I just thought the team needed a bit of fresh impetus. A few average performances today although I thought Barnard was outstanding , couldn't believe they made Gower MOM , not that he played poorly today.
