Said this after the Billericay game
"Best player on the pitch in the first half though was Billericays no 10 Isaac Layne. Reminded me a lot of Wayne Gray. Made lots of runs in behind our defence, never gave the ball away, and did excellent for Billericays goal."
I've got the makings of a great scout, although I did once say to my mate that Nigel Pepper will be a good signing.

He do have an chance of breaking into the first team, he is much better than most of the forwards in league 2. I did thought he was one of Billericay best attacker in first 15 minutes and we could be 2-0 down before Hurst scored!

Nice to see us giving local non-league talent a crack for once. Must have something about him for the likes of Charlton to be sniffing around.

You never know he could turn out to be the next Dwight Gayle.

Spoke to few guys who were at Billericay last season and the opinion on this guy seems to be he is a very raw talent. Got great pace but is very inconsistent and his head goes down easy, he is only 19 though and very inexperienced. All say he is a really nice lad but bites on absolutely anything, any wind up merchants in the changing rooms will have a field day with him haha.

He'll be fine playing in our 1st team at Roots Hall then , as we dont have any fans who slag any of our players off :whistling:

I'm pleased with this. I'd rather we took a chance on a young lad like this than more washed up has beens.

If they are good then definitely.

I'd love a has been like Jamie Cureton or Kevin Lisbie personally, both scored for fun even after 30.

We should ignore the age and focus purely on whether a player is actually any good.

I agree but most young players require the experienced professionals to help them develop and so a mixture of the two is perhaps what is required. And we have Corr and Barnard with buckets of experience.

You can't ignore the age versus talent angle as a 19 year old is still developing physically and even more mentally and this can have a huge bearing on what they go on to become. If you mean is a youngster ready and able to contribute as much as an older pro in the first team right now that's a different debate. At times one will perform better than the other for numerous reasons, swings and roundabouts probably over the course of the season.

I want talent I dont care how old.

The 19 year old may develop, but we want quality in the side now, not in a year.

Someone saying we rather took a chance on youngster rather than washed up has beens is ignoring the likes of Cureton and Lisbie who both did fantastic when moving to clubs in their 30's.

If the 18 year old is as good as the 30 year old then go with the 18 year old certainly because you have future and sell on ability, but lets not just say older players arent worthwhile, because they certainly can be.
