Test Tube?

So why the hell did 20,000 go to Cardiff, if its not interested in football?[b said:Quote[/b] (Einstein @ May 29 2004,21:33)]Yes it is naive, I know you were just at test tube stage in your life when we were in the First Division, but on two different occasions we were top for several games. We still did not get capacity crowds at Roots Hall.[b said:Quote[/b] (footymad13 @ May 29 2004,20:57)]Its not a question of the bigger picture,
Its not naivity, we are getting 4,000 at the moment which gets pushed up to 5-6 depending on promotions and games.
Your telling me its really naive to think doing well in Division two we would get 9-10 thousand.
We are not a footballing town, wake up and smell the coffee.

In the past we have not shown support? Not entirely sure what you mean there, but if this town has never shown support for a football club then why are we to my knowledge the only football club to have its ground built by its own fans? We seem to have a small loyal base of supporters, but it just cannot increase on a constant basis past that![b said:Quote[/b] (footymad13 @ May 30 2004,00:55)]So why the hell did 20,000 go to Cardiff, if its not interested in football?
In the past we have not shown support, and as you quite rightly said i was only a sprog but we now have a new generation supporting Southend.
Its not a question of knowing everything, look at the gates this season.[b said:Quote[/b] (Einstein @ May 30 2004,01:25)]In the past we have not shown support? I think the above posts quite rightly state the answers to your first question so no need to duplicate.
As I said FM, go out and buy the history book of Southend and stop pretending that you know everything as your making yourself look very silly indeed.

No we wouldnt double the attendence because we are a small club and it doesnt matter what division we are in we always will be, the opposite to Sheffield Wednesday and Man City, whatever division they are in they will always have big gates. The only games we will get big gates for are the big games.[b said:Quote[/b] (footymad13 @ May 29 2004,20:10)]Theres matches played at the Mill Stad all year round, its impressive so many wore Southend colours.
I still maintain if this club was in Division 2 and doing well i.e Hartlepool style we would be getting double the attendence.
My god, how many times do we have to go over this. Southend has languished in the bottom division for most of its 98 year term in the football league and we still could not get capacity crowds when we were in the First Division! Stop reflecting everything to this season and 20,000 fans to Cardiff, and its not about me living in the past, its realism.[b said:Quote[/b] (footymad13 @ May 30 2004,02:17)]Its not a question of knowing everything, look at the gates this season.
We have spent the whole season in the bottom half of the table yet we are getting 4,000-6,000
Yep. Because when we were doing well in the old Division Three back in 1990/91 (now Division Two for all you young pups) and I mean REALLY doing well (like running away with the title before we fecked it up at the end), we STILL only managed to haul in 6,000 at the most into Roots Hall. Times haven't changed that much ...[b said:Quote[/b] (footymad13 @ May 29 2004,20:57)]Your telling me its really naive to think doing well in Division two we would get 9-10 thousand.

Isn't it?![b said:Quote[/b] (overseas shrimper @ May 30 2004,07:56)]What next? Are you going to try and argue that the world is, in fact, flat?
Our biggest gates last season coincided with :[b said:Quote[/b] (footymad13 @ May 30 2004,02:17)]We have spent the whole season in the bottom half of the table yet we are getting 4,000-6,000
a) ... because they SUPPORT Southend United perhaps and want to see them come out on top in such a relegation scr*p? Sounds to me like you're one of the glory-hunters, FM.[b said:Quote[/b] (footymad13 @ May 30 2004,18:43)]a) Why do the people wanna spend £15 to watch a religation scr*p ?
b) New Stadium, Good football and a good day out and you may see some change.
How in gods name do you work that out ?[b said:Quote[/b] (Javea Shrimper @ May 30 2004,19:29)]Sounds to me like you're one of the glory-hunters, FM.
