Well its clear to me that these frustrations of PB have previously been aired to the players in private over the past few weeks and they have been falling on deaf ears. So I don't see any real harm in giving them a blasting in public. Lets see what sort of reaction we get in our next couple of games. Its the 11 players on the pitch that have got to accept some responsibility , cant blame all this on the manager !

you can release some mild criticism into the public domain. but to label players a naïve bunch of children in public is demeaning and a massive gamble to take. defeat on Friday and brown may well be turned on severely.

God some people on here atsound me, after the first 3 matches of the season when we was unbeaten and not a single goal had ben scored against us , you was hailing PB as our savior, now after a few defeats and a draw ,he is the anti christ.look at the defeats and the draw ,yes he is the manager ,but its not is faultif some of the players cannot handle a little bit of pressure and panic,he dosent tell them to leave the strikers unmarked from set pieces, in fact im sure he preaches the opposite to them , that they cannot follow instructions is not his fault and its also not his fault that he hasnt got the players to replace them, because perhaps dropping them to the subs bench may just be the tonic to make them listen and understand.yes i believe he was correct in calling them children , hopefully soon they will grow up into men and take responsibility for their mistakes as we all have to in life.

The children bit has to be kept behind closed doors as that appears to be his opnion. it is out of duty of the art of man-management. it is something that could alienate players if they take it the wrong way. like I mentioned previously there is a content that can be aired publically but putting across something forward publically like naïve bunch of children would be seen as a gamble as it risks disarespecting man-management and inner confidence in the manager. purely on this side of things.

You may not be happy with how individual players have performed, but to label them all as a bunch of children in public is not on. What managers say in the dressing room and to the media should be very different things. It's very basic.

To take it to a non-football context, it's basically the equivalent of your boss slagging you off to your peers, saying you can't do your job properly, rather than taking you into an office and giving you a solid rollicking. Ask yourself whether you would be motivated to perform better. I wouldn't.

I see the points about players needing to take responsibility for their performances, but it is a team game. No one sets out to make mistakes or let their team mates down and Brown is responsible for keeping the whole club together during times of difficulty. This is one such time, and it seems to me like he is trying to distance himself from the poor performances of his players, which is totally unacceptable.

It's too early to say time to go, but it's a concern. I think I'm right in saying one of the criticisms of Brown's management is his teams tend to struggle to turn round a losing run. I can see why.

After he publicly shamed the players on the pitch against Man City, Hull only won one more league game that season - a 1-0 away win to a dire Fulham side - losing 13 and drawing five.

I think the bottom line with all this is whether or not it's effective. If his remarks had a galvanising effect on the team, I'm sure we'd all be praising his tough, no nonsense, management style, however, we are now in the situation where our players are being publically criticised and it itsn't working on the pitch. How much more insulting can he get I wonder if we fail to magically turn things around? As has been said before, I do think a big part of the buck must stop with Mr Brown for these performances - it certainly did with Sturrock when we were performing so poorly at the end of last season.

If it works, fans might accept it (although not necssarily like it), but the evidence is that it doesn't work which leaves everyone unhappy - players and fans alike. So on that basis - Mr Brown is in the wrong here IMO. He should be encouraging a squad which has just been put together and which lost some high profile names at the end of last season.

Agreed,

Many on here hate when our fans berate the players during the game yet Phil has given those very same fans a loaded gun to scream further abuse at the boys,Sour taste for my liking.

I'm all for it. We've given away some shocking goals this season which have cost us points that our performances have deserved. It's just basic stuff, and must be incredibly frustrating for PB, so I can understand him being a bit irate. If he wasn't saying anything, he'd have people on here on his back because he wasn't doing anything about it.

There are an awful lot of people on here who are just waiting for him to fail, and this is just another stick to beat him with.

If you analyse the games, we "should" have at least another 4 points (1 dropped at Chesterfield, 1 at home to Scunny, 2 at the weekend). All down to really basic errors. The players need to man up a bit, and start defending properly. It;s got sod all to with how many chances we're creating etc. We've done more than enough this season to have won 5 games, and drawn a couple. The only really bad game appears to have been Morecambe which I missed.

So let's get off PB's back, and give him a chance to manage how he sees fit. We're really not that far away from being a top side in this division...

Personally I cant see anything wrong with the article, he has said they were 'naive like a bunch of children'....hardly picking out individualls and hanging them for all to see and although I wasnt at the game if we have given away needless and stupid freekicks through naivety why should it not be mentioned? There are no personal assasniations in that article, or sould destroying comments. The team and individuals rightly-so want the headlines for taking the glory when things are going well and with that they have to take the other side when mistakes are made.

Get behind the lads & the club, its a long old season!

Phil should know better and keep his comments regarding his players in the dressing room!

Have you ever been in our dressing rooms? They are minging ! They are so shabby + a disgrace to league football .... i would expect everyone would want to get the hell out of there ASAP + do their talking somewhere else !!!

He seems to never do "average".

Didn't win his first 12 games at Preston. Went on a great run of 7 league wins in a row, then failed to win the next 13, which started with 4 league defeats in a row followed by a draw (sound familiar?). Managed to win the 14th match, but drew the next two and lost his job.

Am I being a little bit too cynical? or have I been a SUFC fan for too many years?

Before I saw Sunderland supporters discussion of PB it crossed my mind that maybe he was looking for an "out"
and the possibility of filing an application for the Black Cats job, he still has many aquaintances in the area and
may have early knowledge of PDC's demise. just thinking out loud.
