In all seriousness...

I would quite happily replace Tilly with anyone who I know will get us promoted without putting us in too much debt, then consolidating our position in the championship.
As I don't know anyone who will do this, I am content with the current situation.

And before anyone starts posting lists of names, please note that I said will, not could or is capable of .

Best candidate to satisfy what you're after is one Steve Tilson I have to say!

and before people have a heart attack...

Is Tilson's time up? Poor in defence, poor in attack, no clue with substitutions, staying down this season.

Is it time for a change?

His last Striker signings....

Harrold - ****
Forran - OFF
Paynter - Gone
Macdonald - Non league Freddy Eastwood - **** off.

Tilson in or Tilson out?

If anyone is going to plummet us to the depths of 5th top-scorers in the division, I'd rather it be ex-Southend hero Steve Tilson rather than some ex-spammer like Alvin Martin or ex-Col Ewe like Wignall.

Admittedly its a shame to burden one of my all time favourite players with such a thankless task as putting up with our so-called supporters.

How on earth can people say they want a manager to be sacked who has taken us from near the bottom of League 2 to currently a midtable League 1 side! Clueless or crazy????

Southend United
1 Darryl FLAHAVAN
2 David MCSWEENEY
3 Lewis HUNT
4 Leon CORT
5 Neil JENKINS(57)
6 Jim CORBETT
7 Jay SMITH
8 Che WILSON
9 Mark GOWER
10 Drewe BROUGHTON
11 Tes BRAMBLE
Michael HUSBANDS for Broughton(46)
Duncan JUPP for Corbett(46)
Mark WARREN for Wilson(63)
Carl Emberson
Leon Constantine

this was the match squad for a 4-0 defeat at Yeovil before Tilson took over.

We were 23rd at the time.

Tilly has had some unsuccessful signings, but he has also taken the club from verge of non-league football into Championship on a shoe-string budget. He has also made some cracking signings:
Eastwood
Macca
Bailey
P Clarke
Sodje ( up until the leg break)

It's no good saying get him out. He is one of the longest serving managers in the country. I remember Alex Ferguson being on the verge of the sack in the late 80's and now look at where man U are. The most successful clubs have stability in the management and know when to bring people in and whe to move them on.

Give the guy a break - it would have been very easy for the team to collapse after relegation and losing Freddy but they haven't. Ok we're not setting the league alight, but we're comfortably top half and haven't played well. All we need it to click into gear, find a partner for Leon and this will take pressure of all the lads, especially the defence and Collis ( who has done brilliantly)

Christ, was it really that bad!!! Looking at that side it's plain for all to see how well Tilson has done and the signings that he continues to make look to be taking this club forward. Any suggestions we are stagnating are absurd. Personally i'd like to Sir Steve here for as long as possible.

not a bad team really, Wignall for all his faults did sign Gower and Conny. After some swallowing of pride he snapped up Darryl as well.

Tilson in or Tilson out?

Tilson in.

I don't much fancy returning to the days of us changing manager every 18 months whilst not actually going anywhere.

Managers since Fry:

Taylor
Thompson
Whelan
Martin
Little
Webb
Newman
Wignall

Some horrific memories come flooding back when I type that list out. Even the return of Webb saw him do some horrific things at the time like picking his own son and subjecting us to the likes of Pony Richards and Jason Harris. Although to be fair, his main remit at the time was to do something drastic about our ludicrous wage bill that John Main had run up.

I deliberately included Barry Fry in my original post Kenny because he proves the point again of why we should stick with Tilly. Fry came in, did a great job and assembled a team that really could have made the Premiership, but he buggered off the second anyone offered a bit more cash and it took us as a Club years to recover.

We could sack Tilly today, appoint a fantastic Fry-esque manager tomorrow who sees us sail through this division and then goes somewhere else six or twelve months down the line. I, for one, don't want to see the long-term stability of this club gambled for the possibility of a short-term gain.

Interesting

Flavs Hunt and Gower still figure, Cort is playing a league above us, Maher was missing from the above game and Connie on the Bench , so 6 of that side are/would be regulars this season (and I would guess would have been in the Championship)

Also that side does look like it was hit by injuries / suspensions (No Maher, Connie on the Bench and not getting on, Che in Midfield, Hunt at CB)

A side of
Flavs
Jupp/Hunt
Cort
Warren
Che
Gower
Maher
Smith
Jenks
Connie
Tes

Would have been available and that should have been good enough for a top ten finish....

Looks like Wignall could not get the best from the players to me.....

Wignall's main problem was Drewe Broughton. As soon as we dropped the talentless donkey and started playing with 11 men we were able to score goals and pull ourselves clear of the relegation difficulty.

Even without Donkey Broughton that team would only have been good enough for about 10th at best, as you can't afford a centre-half who can't run or jump like Warren.

I think England Shrimper is feeling the whole not at ease with ourselves thing, simply because of the team having to adjust and flex it's movements as we find out about certain players' capabilities and is questioning the manager whilst seeking reassurance from those around him (us).
It's all pretty nervy stuff this dropping down a div y'know, but lest we forget how we arrived into the Championship with a L2 budget!
Even then we tried to play our way and not kick our way (cough-Col Ewe).
In just two seasons we've lost Freddy, Sodge,Spinner and the Goat.

We simply HAVE to give Tilly's youngsters a chance to come through, kids like Harrold,Hooper and Moussa are being brought up the Tilson way and we have to support them,to benefit in the long term.

The Reserves are being sorted out now with Austin. The Yoofs are being sorted out now, people like Hammel are being sorted it seems and even the moaning old fcu*ers in the East are bearing the wrath of Tilson.
I tell you, this club is getting the complete make-over from top to toe and anyone who gets in the way will suffer it seems.
Sack Tilson? We'd be bonkers to now!!

Hey Glasgow, what's that famous phrase about keeping one's head while all about other's lose theirs?
It's how i feel about our supporters at times and no wonder why. They can't see a good thing when it's shoved right under their nose.

Exactly, good point!
And hopefully I won't witness any of this half-ar5ed critical support an ever growing number of our "fans" seem to think is acceptable at Donny tomorrow!
All for one, all for Southend!
The team need a classic away performance from us tomorrow to cheer them onto 3 much needed points!
