I dare say its a small number. Probably as many who wont go because of the tactics used last season or those we lost when standing was no longer allowed. I think gates are struggling generally in our league and to be fair times are hard. Many love their football but not before the kids school uniform or wifes vajazzle.

To add to that...

First 6 home (league) games last season: 5,113 average.

First 6 home (league) games this season: 4,824 average.

Which represents a drop of around 6% on the same time period last season.

So whatever way you slice it, more people are deciding not to go. Whether that be due to Finances/Ron/League 2 football. I'm sure that is a trend shared by most at this level or even higher. But it shows our financial position is not going to get any easier, unless we start pulling up tree's on the pitch.

But without the right tools given to him by the Chairman, Sturrock faces an impossible job. And I feel very sorry for the man.

I have to say that one of last year's reasons for a bigger average in the first 6 games was the Friday night home game v Shrewsbury when we got 6,394 fans.

Comparing against our 4,824 average this year last years individual attendances were...

5,105
4,794
4,805
4,598
4,984
6,394

Without the big Friday night attendance our average was 4,857.... I think you could be looking at the Friday night factor Smiffy as a big reason for increased attendance. Thoughts?

Oh certainly. Friday night football is and will always prove popular down here. Strange that we only have 2 this season, compared to 5 last season. Obviously they have listened to the complaints from some seaso's that struggle to make them.

Bit of a hit to the club's pockets. Friday night games will be a success. I agree with you. I personally prefer the feeling of Saturday football - I think for historic reasons.

The club did a great job in noticing the success of Friday night fixtures and to take that away seems strange. If they can't be upfront pre-season regarding the games then it is unfair to season ticket holders and I am sure cutting a deal with them will not cut it because no doubt seaso's want to be at every game.

None. Because all people I know actually support the club.

Spot on. Don't forget those who stay away because they don't like our style of play. At least that's the reason they give. But then they probably watch Barcelona and think that should be us.

Those who don't go because of Ron are cutting their nose off to spite their face.

A poor excuse seeing as our style has changed and we are actually playing decent football now...

If people are staying away because of Ron then that is entirely up to them . I do not think that this makes them a 'bad' supporter or anything of that nature. If someone’s principles stop them from coming then that is their choice and I think that we should accept that. I doubt its an easy decision, and I would like to think that they realise that they are hurting the club with their decision, but ultimately they are putting their principles first. Do I agree with their view, no I don’t , but I will accept it , even though I would ask them to reconsider their view as at this point we clearly need as much money as possible.

I recall a thread last year where a guy bought a season ticket but refused to use it. His logic was that he didn’t want to hurt the club financially, but he also could not support the current chairman (or was it manager?)

However I loose all sympathy when I hear comments of ‘not putting any money in Ron’s pockets ‘ or ‘ it makes no difference if I don’t go anyway’

I would liken them to consciousness objectors during war time, it does not mean that they do not love their country or our cowards because they choose not to fight

I have been reading the same old posts for a couple of years now about people who don't come to matches as they don't want to give RM any money. FFS what do these people think happens to match day receipts or season ticket sales? It does not go into RM bank account - it supplements the running of a football club - doesn't sustain it.

Why don't people understand that by staying away they are not really hurting RM. They are helping to contribute to the severe cashflow problems that have led to the embargo.

Supporters 'support' the team, and help financially toward the day to day running of the club - in the absence of a multi millionaire owner. I believe the days of any money leaking out of the club to any of RM's companies is over.

I urge stayaways to think again, for the benefit of SUFC..

I find this whole thing quite ironic.

If you don't go to games when the 'hardcore' fans do, your reason is sh*t and you're not a true fan of the club

If you do go to games when the 'hardcore' fans dont, because they have a 'cause', you're not seen as a true fan.

Either way, its all a bit trivial for something that is supposed to be an enjoyable past-time. If you do or don't want to go for whatever reason, do or don't, does anyone elses opinion of you for going or not really matter?

I don't personally know anybody who has stopped going because of Ron or any other off-field matters. Some have stopped becuase they aren't interested in Division 4 football; more though have simply prioritised other spending over a leisure activity.

I'd stop coming for financial reasons, or possibly to spend more time with my family. If the idea that us having a chairman I didn't agree with was a reason not to come I'd have stopped back in the 70s.

Both Ron Martin and the people who boycott games because of him may think that RM = SUFC but to me he is only passing through

None that I know of.

How many people are staying away because the club are in League Two and they want a reason that doesnt make them sound like glory hunters ? :winking:

Lets see if the crowds say at 4000-5,000 if we go up....

Problem is can we hope to go up with crowds of 4,000-odd.....are they big enough to help get us out of the embargo?

Chicken and egg.

I watched this league football before (and in fact supported RM's appointment) , but stopped going partway through Championship season when I found out what was happening. #gloryhunter.

Have been tempted since, when free tickets offered... but it's more than just not wanting to put money in his pocket. I don't want to show any support to him in any way. More than happy to go away though.

We will get crowds of 5,000-6,000 if we do well and we will lose money anyway.

As long as we can strengthen the team the crowd size wont affect our chances of going up.

Less money -- less chance of everyone being paid. We have been down that road before and got relegated with a non-paid, bad team spirited side.
