I have never once lived in Southend but my dad was bought up there and has supported the Blues since he was god knows how old. I used to support Man U when I was about 6 but then suddenly I just loved southend. Luckily, I was introduced to them in the good old days of 2004. A pretty good way to start liking a team. Not been as good of late but I will always support them and thank god I do.

So what about my son and daughter both born in Essex and have has sufc shirts and clobber since born but because of my job we have lived in Bedfordshire and now oxfordshire? What about my 3rd child when he/she is born? I get posted to a different base every 3/4 years. Why can't they just follow in my footsteps?

Nothing stopping them but in my view the ethics are all wrong that they need to support top teams

Surprised by your comments Scott. I was born in Brentwood, lived in Shenfield and now threw marriage live in billericay. Although I do go to Ricay on occasion I support Southend due to my dad and also now my son is also a shrimper. For us they are our local team and in the family blood.

Each to their own

Each to their own

Of course it is mate, but the pleasure I get sharing goal celebrations with my son is priceless. I've never said he couldn't support anyone else but he knows that I can afford to take him to Roots Hall, and that Southend is the family team and we are proud of the fact. No going back, as I said to him recently welcome to years of pain and disappointment with the odd happy moment!

Your child should support the team that represents where he is from not who is father supports

My dad's west ham but I ain't from East London like him so I have ZERO interest

Nearest ground to where I was born was Orient. The whole of my family are Spurs fans & so are a lot of good mates. As a kid my old man, when he could, took me to WHL, but when I wanted to go to footy on my own the only place he'd let me go with mates was Roots Hall.
I loved it and so my aligences changed, & for over 30 years now SUFC has been my team. A couple of years ago my then 11 y/o daughter announced that she wanted to go with me to RH. She is now a ST holder & has missed just one home game in two years, as well as going to every away game Ive been to in that time. We are in the top 60 of Wino's travellers for last season :)
She wasnt born in Southend & neither was I but its our club of choice & hopefully in years to come it will be for her kids, I like to think so :)

Remember that next time you high five my son or you see him clapping along to one of your songs as technically he should be a Brighton fan using your ethos.

Indeed maybe he will see it that way one day maybe he won't, it's all about choices I just felt that support should be based on who you are not what your told to be

As a kid a lot of kids look up to there Dads. I am not from Southend but my Dad is and from the age of six I wanted to be want to be my Dad. I knew he supported Southend and despite his best attempts I wanted to watch my Dads team. Not only was it my Dads team it was my Grandads team and my great Grandads team. Who else was I going to support?

I agree its pathetic when people support Man U or Liverpool and live in the South East but I don't think you should begrudge someone supporting Southend due to family reasons.

Take your kid to watch you play for SUISA and win, then afterwards go watch Southend spank a team. He will love you and Southend forever
