He always pays! This is nothing new is it? He always comes through! How much do u want to bet we don't get wound up and the tax bill is paid? It's like a merry go round it happens every year! Don't get so worried about it! In all honesty the reason why I'm not worried even if ron can't pay is the fact we will have loads of interest in the club from potential buyers local and foreign! We are a club with massive potential in a great catchment area.
Completely agree. RM isn't stupid, he's put in millions over the years and the FF project means everything to him due to the pot of gold he'll receive off the property. If he wasn't confident about paying this tax bill, he'd recognise the fact he would have to give away a slice of the pie rather than losing it all...

I think we're missing the entire point here. We shouldn't be dicing with the court and HMRC's patience in the first place...
I fully agree. But I wasn’t missing the point, because the point was about how ‘final’ March 1st is. If there is hard evidence of funds arriving shortly after the 1st, I wouldn’t be surprised if another adjournment is given (I could be wrong). This doesn’t mean I think the situation is acceptable, just discussing the reality of this **** situation.

I suggest we all chill out. Sure we love our club and sure it's a big part of our lives. I've been a fan for over sixty years so it means a lot to me as it does to everyone else on SZ. But some posters are going over the top. At the end of the day it's a football club, a source of entertainment. It shouldn't be affecting people's mental health, creating excessive stress and turning us into keyboard warriors. A sense of proportion seems to have been lost.

For six months we have been hosting a Ukrainian refugee couple in their sixties who fled with just a suitcase of possessions. Their country has been invaded, their town is near the front line and people are dying as Russian missiles crash into homes in their town. People they knew. Two months ago they were told that their home had been destroyed.

They came 2,000 miles across a continent to live with us in our house under the government's Homes for Ukraine scheme and we can offer peace and safety and show that we care. But their only son is in the Ukrainian Army serving in a mortar detachment in the front line trenches. Every morning our guests wake and check their mobile phones. Every morning their son texts them with the simple phrase "I'm OK". Every morning they fear the worst as they start up their phones.

That is stress. That is damaging to mental health.

It puts the problems facing my club in perspective for me.

I know this is a hypothetical and unlikely scenario. But if there was clear evidence that funds will arrive on March 2nd we would be wound up instead of there being another adjournment because March 1st was labelled ‘final’? I find that hard to believe.

If that were the case it would come under option 2 agreement to pay, so the petition would be dismissed, however given our previous record of non payment in order for HMRC to enter an agreement with us I don't believe they would be willing to give us anymore than 5 working days to pay, you have to remember at the last 2 hearings they have been asking the judge to wind the club up and not grant an adjournment

They are two very incomparable things IMO - a son at war and a much-loved football club potentially ceasing to exist. I don’t consider it fair to compare them, both can be hugely detrimental to mental health on the persons impacted.

I think we all understand there are bigger societal and personal issues currently going on in the world, but our club perhaps not existing is still big to many and would dramatically effect a lot of people on this site.

We really need you repeating yourself on every thread to anyone who dares suggest an alternative opinion to yours.
Repeating myself like others on here who keep saying Ron will get us out of this black hole we’re in you mean?

Pardon me if I sound worried, but with only 29 days to go till we’re potentially finished I’ve never been more worried that I’m not going to have a club to support any longer, yet some fans on here still don’t seem to grasp just how bad our situation really is.

That was my original question/scenario when asking what 'final' means.

We now have 2 differing views based on posters expert friends opinions.

I can't see that there is a legal meaning in the term 'final' being used to describe a future hearing.

I agree. There's something I'm working on at the moment that's putting things in perspective for me.

It really does seem a possibility that we could hear the death knell toll. Each passing post,be it rumours or established fact is more depressing.
@Barling Magna your post really struck a chord with me and the thought of being separated from my children in such circumstances is beyond comprehension. But everything is subjective. There will be some, probably lots that the one constant in their lives is Southend United. It may be the one thing that’s gets them out of their home. It could be one of very few opportunities to actually socialise with people. Should the unthinkable happen to our club I think we should recognise that for the most vulnerable amongst our fan base this could have a significant impact on their wellbeing.

I’m not an expert in Macc’s history of dealing with HMRC, but I seem to recall Macclesfield trying - in vain - to show the judge that there were funds coming to them on there “final” court appearance, but the ruling went something along the lines of them not meeting the deadline.

If that was the case (my memory is hazy), then one of two things went through the judges mind to come to his conclusion to liquidate the club:

1) Don’t care, it’s too late

2) The proposal pushed under his nose didn’t cut the mustard, for whatever reason.

You can keep whatever outlook you like but we need to deal in facts, the hearing on 1st March is the final one and there will be no more adjournments or kicking the can further down the road, the future of SUFC will be decided in that court room on that date no ifs or buts
A quick search online makes it clear that it's possible for a winding-up order to be stayed or rescinded , so 1 March isn't neccesarily the final nail in the coffin even if the order was granted (although in that scenario we'd clearly be getting pretty bloody close). And of course agree with posters who have said we shouldn't be operating the club in a way which leads to us ending up in court constantly.

We need to hope ron accepts outside investment now..... I get he isn't going to sell up fully but he does need to admit he can't afford to finance the club alone. We can not be in the same position next year. Not fair on the fans, players and staff. We deserve better!

I'm pretty sure this year will decide our fate; good or bad. I cannot see this situation lasting another 11 months without either
A) Ron finally striking gold
B) A buyout/partnership actually happens
C) We are purely a figment of history books

I think the ordering of the above is also most likely to least. Not sure that will settle many nerves though
